Democracy should be judged on the results it gives. On this count, India is denies the same rights that Pakistan does, namely the right of clean water, food, affordable education and a prosperous life. The fact that the system of government of India is different than Pakistans but which gives the same results as that Pakistan does not make India superior.

The difference is that a civilian govt is accountable to the public and pressure groups like media and judiciary make these nincompops work, while a military and authoritarian govt cannot be pressurised and works in its own manner.

Democracy as is practiced in India allows for significant economic distortions which is evident in some of the regressive Indian economic policies.

The socialistic economy days are over, the move towards privatisation had made major changes.

Pakistan on the other hand in the last six years has undertaken deep reforms in every sector of the economy which will manifest in higher future economic growth.

At the risk of us going off topic.
China is at one end of the spectrum, similarly you must compare the vast majority of other authoritarian states and the state of their economy, that lie at the other end of the spectrum. The checks and balances of a democratic system are far more stable and long lasting than an authoritarian one. The only difference with the Chinese and Indian economy is that China started it economic reforms in the 80s and Indan started it in the 90s.

The dismal state of the Chinese banking system proves my point. In fact Pakistan's banking system (which has experienced some democracy) is far more stable than the Chinese system.
