Recently, I came across a blog pertaining to India. First and foremost this is not meant to be offensive. I am curious only and wish to be enlightened.

I felt a bit aghast viewing the imagery in the blog. I'm not referring to the scenes of poverty but to the drifting corpses and other matters. Understandably, I come from a very different culture and I have not ever had the chance to live in an Indian one either, hence my lack of awareness and my questioning.

Please view the imagery in the blog. I wish to ask the reasoning for corpses being strewn as such and other matters. Again, I mean no offense if this is a deep cultural or avid religious matter.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

The forum censors some words so the above link will not function. I'll post the link again as follows: www. chinasmack . com/2010/pictures/******-india-photos-chinese-netizen-reactions.html

The censored word is filt*y (*= h)

Link doesn't work... sent me to a Filipino **** site insead.

I just edited my post. Apparently because of the usage of one word the forum system automatically censors it hence making the link useless.

You source a blog which is nothing but racist? And ask such an innocent question?
Wow. Your disclaimer was a pathetic attempt to inflame.

Advice to Indian members - avoid.

Thank you, I see it now.

This article is an example of "selective reporting". The author finds a certain detail and emphasizes it, making it seem like a representative of the whole.

I can assure you, India as a whole is not full of open feces, drifting corpses, or livestock feeding on human waste. Varanasi (which is where I assume the pics are from) is an extreme example as it is the destination of millions of pilgrims each year, and the state in which it is located (Bihar) is one of the most backward in terms of infrastructure. And even in Bihar, you will not see these scenes everywhere.

Do not take selective reporting too seriously. Understand that India is a democratic country, and that certain individuals take advantage of this to paint India in a negative light by emphasizing certain details.

By the way, I think the whole purpose of this thread was a rather lame attempt at flaming.

Sir, you are taking it in the wrong way. The contents of the blog have not been made by me and therefore I take no responsibility for its word and content. my questions however remains what it is. I am aware that burying of bodies is not practiced by all communities in India and that instead the bodies of the deceased are burnt with the remaining ashes being put into the Holy Ganges. My question was only in regards to why un-burnt corpses were disposed of in the river (or similar waterbodies). I fail to understand why you must take what is otherwise a simplistic question as an attempt to somehow belittle India.

Thank very much for your post. I do understand that the blogger is biased in ways more than one and I already said I make no reference to purposely pictured scenes of poverty.

I previously thought only ashes were destined for the Holy river, or is there another reason for washing of complete bodies?

I request the admins to close this thread.

This forum provides me with an active Indian community and this alone is the reason for posting a question here regarding India. There is no other reason.

As for the 'lame' attempt at flaming as your term it. I myself request the admins to close this thread. I am curious though. I shall PM you instead.

Well I have not opened the link, as I am using my offical machine and does not like to open links of blogs.

From what I understand looking at comments, it seems in some places bodies of dead were not completly burnt and were thrown in gangas.

The part I have visited, so many rivers including gangas I have never came across something similar. I however have heard this from some other people who visited India. So it seems in some places it might be happening.

My advice is people should not be doing this and it is not good idea, those who are doing it should be stopped and punished. I will not mind creating a law to stop all this, if it is happening.

What I have seen is Hindus burn the dead bodies and they turn completly into ashes. I have not seen unburnt bodies, even skull is destroyed by use of stick.

Now a days the most popular form is electrically burning the bodies.

By the way we should not get scared of people trying to malign our country, it happens for all countries and properly answering the questions is best way. However there are some troll whose whole purpose is to ignore the answers and continue the rant, in which case avoid him. You cannot win against a troll.

I appreciate your curiosity. But those images are deeply disturbing. It is almost voyeuristic and the images are meant for people who take pleasure in watching a rotten deformed body. I would suggest the thread be closed or at least warn the people who are not ready to watch it.

.
Well if the images are bad they should be removed and discussion should be done via text.
