After then, Persians conquered Anatolia and ruled it through vassals, according to Herodotos.

How long ago was this? For how long?

When you say ruled you mean the people were native to the plateau - under neighboring Persian rule? Or were the people Persian as well?

What happened to all these other peoples you speak of initially?

Cause if only the last 1000 years as you put it, your present lot came from Mongolia right?

The Internet Classics Archive | The History of Herodotus by Herodotus

Read Herodotos, probably 7th century BC to 4th century BC Persian rule.

No historical evidence to support the ancestry of Lydians, Phyrgians or Troians. These people either assimilated or got killed throughout the long centuries.

Turkish origin is disputed. Most probably Between Urals and Mongolia. By the year 1000 AD, Turks were in the Gates of Italia, And Central Asia was Turkish dominated.

As far as I know Persians ruled them indirectly, they were vassals and continuef their presence, then with the Greek and later Roman rule they got assimilated into Greeks, a huge portion of Anatolian Greeks in fact are assimilated Anatolians, most of these Anatolians were speaking dialects of Anatolian sub-group of Indo-European languages, some of these languages were not related to Anatolian sub group(such as Phrygian, because they were immigrants)

If you're asking the very first homeland of the Turkic people, then its disputed, probably somewhere in Siberia or around of Mongolia. but if you're where the ancestors of Anatolian Turks, they came from east of Caspian sea, around of Aral, they came to there from further east, around of Issyk lake if I'm not wrong.

First of all let's clearify something, there's not any state called itself Byzantine ( Byzantium ) in history, Byzantine is a name created by German Historians because Germans started to claim that their "Holy Roman Empire" is the successor of Roman Empire and Charlemagne is "Imperator Romanorum" (Emperor of Rome).

The so called "Byzantine Empire" was known to its inhabitants as the "Imperium Romanum", "Imperium Romanorum" (Roman Empire, Empire of the Romans) and had a multi-ethnic character during most of its history.

After Turks captured Istanbul, Mehmet II the conqueror , proclaimed himself as "Kayser-i Rum" (Caesar of Rome) which also means decleration of Ottoman Empire being successor of Imperium Romanum.

Mehmet II's proclamation of "Kayser-i Rum strength the propaganda against the name "East Roman Empire" in anti-Ottoman Western Europe and all western historians started to name it as "Byzantine", "Greek Byzantine" etc.

When we come to the question for today's Turkey, we can say that almost there is nobody here that feels to be Roman.

How much do the turkish people today feel related to the byzantians (romans) who lived there before the ottomans?

like how is it in comparison to iran where mostly expats are proud of their pre-islamic history and iranians in iran are either ignorant of the history or fiercely islamic ?

Stop living in history and stop fighting over it.
You never know for sure, what causes what, and what were the circumstance behind the decisions and weather the narrators narrate it with honesty or they were simply misinformed.

I have met people who deny history just as close as 5 years ago, you can find many on this forum.

An answer to the question. We don't feel directly related to Byzantine empire. Turkish empire was successor of many empires, and they absorbed Byzantine empire and got influenced by them in many ways, cultural ways, architectural ways, etc. But generally Turks are proud on the elite people which were always Turks. We don't identify with our subjects.

For people, Byzantines were just a historical hostile country that ended with the conquest of Istanbul, but its about the empire, we continued to live together with Greeks(which we call "Rum") our cultures and life styles mixed with each other we're so close, although due the hostilities we'e not much close today.

In your fantasy dreams we are maybe close.
