Pakistan needs to play its cards well. Balancing and counter balancing is an art. Pakistan geo location gives us an immense advantage to tilt the balance in anyone favour, be it Quad, an anti-China alliance or anti US entity. Why US wants a good relationship with us when It had already chosen India as its Alley in the area?
Presently our foreign policy is in the hands of military. Which may provide some perks but overall this is a highly specialised field looked after by crafty cunning veterans, diligent diplomats all over the world.
Pakistan should not ignore the importances of Foreign office officials and think tanks. Military minds are more of straightforward men singularly focussing on one point agenda of killing or get killed the enemy. While the diplomacy is an art of covering, uncovering and discovering the mutual beneficial relationship anywhere, and everywhere, art of saying NO without saying no. extorting and milking the enemy to max extent by playing the indistinguishable game of friends and foes.
Foreign minister has to be more on foreign land than in the country. Pakistan has to go for aggressive diplomacy.

Quad is aiming at joining the marital forces to hold, control and block the sea trade lines. Belt and road initiative is an effort to find an alternative to these sea lines which runs in the scalding waters for china. Pakistan marine area is pivotal world trade and energy needs, sitting here one can strangulate east, west and the rest. Powerful Navy is central to this.

QUAD have become a reality. Right now the countries in it are USA, Australia, Japan, and India. Soon South Korea can or will join it. And although Indonesia plans to stay neutral but it has serious issues with China also. In fact even Vietnam come jump in and become part of QUAD. In short China is getting surrounded. Yes China has huge Navy and Air Force, still its enemies are no small powers. They are huge powers with huge budgets and have the will to spend on defence and are determined take on China. To counter this threat China needs allies, and let's be frank, right now China has only one true ally and in fact always had only one ally or let say a strategic ally which is Pakistan.

Pakistan is not only the flagship country for China's belt and road initiative but also a strong military ally of China. In the past our defence corporation was limited to Air Force and Army mainly. But due to CPEC we have started to focus on our Navy also. But due to QUAD, China is getting surrounded and one of the main country part of QUAD is our arch rival India. Therefore China's best bet to counter QUAD or at least taking India out of picture is to help Pakistan improve its Navy. Yes 4 Type 54 A and 8 submarines are great start, but to keep India busy on our side we would need much bigger Navy. Even Ballistic Missile carrying nuclear submarines and Destroyers like Type 52 D. A very strong Pakistan Navy is must to keep China's energy routes open, specially the one in Persian region.

Pakistan is a Chinese Ally ..against India. Infact the only reason Pakistan and China became allies in 60s is because of India, other than that Pakistan and China have very less in common.

Where as China is an atheist, communist regime. Pakistan is a deeply Islamic military controlled state, they don't speak the common language, have vastly different cultures, most of the foods Chinese eat would disgust the common Pakistanis.

But the question here is Pakistan a Chinese ally against USA ?

I doubt it, since the beginning, Pakistan has both been in awe off American culture as well it's ruling elite and especially the military is scared American military might.

Fact is Iran might prove to be more a steadfast Chinese ally against American coalition ..than Pakistan.

Pakistan will at best will try to remain neutral in a Sino - American conflict.

unless Pakistan fix their own internal issues we are in no position to make promises which we can not stand on, lets not Forget India, ANA and US is still in Afghanistan, Kashmir is occupied by India and Iran is no reliable friend, we are surrounded by enemies and unlike China we can not buy friends.

Surely, it's a right time for Pakistan and China to come up with a mutual and long-term strategy. I think following 3 steps should be taken, at least at document level:

• An openly declared defence treaty similar to NATO countries have; if one country is attacked all allies are in. Later that treaty between Pak and China to be carefully expanded with new and loyal members.
• Start working on joint military bases with heavy focusing on naval and air patrolling in Indian ocean regions. Meanwhile Pakistan keeps expanding its naval power and become a fully capable Green Water navy.
• Economic, academic, industrial and technological integration. This will help Pakistan to go beyond the Green Water Navy levels in future.

If you have ever been in a place where you shoot and kill people, politics is the last thing.

China has done a world of good, maybe it will keep doing.

But what it cannot do, is become a shining light for humanity, to help out people not agreeing with it.

With China’s current military power, it is almost impossible for anyone to encircle the coast of China, and it is impossible for the United States to transfer all its navy to the Indo-Pacific.

Pakistan does not need to openly choose sides so far, unless someone wants to stop CPEC.

After the 054p and the submarine join the battle sequence, the Pakistan Navy will be significantly improved.

We have relation with Australia, Japan and USA. So, need to maintain overall relationships with other countries.

China can entice Australia out of the Quad by offering it its market. China is the number 1 market for Australian coal and iron ore.

Other than India or Japan, there are no countries which China cant pull out of alliance. USA cant match what China can offer. USA is a slowly dying power and I m not saying it out of wishful thinking.

South Korea will not join QUAD and has actually threatened to pull out of various pacts over its high tensions with Japan.
QUAD isn’t a feasible pact, when nations within it have multiple disputes with their own neighbours, who ironically want to form a front against China who bullies neighbours from their own perspective.
Like I’ve stated;
Australia too small to fight.
Japan too old to fight.
India too many to fight.
US can it really be bothered to fight.

US will forward most likely india and the others will sit back and observe. how stupid can Japan, Aus, be to go against China when their trade is dependent on China.
