Islamabad:Qatar on Tuesday extended a formal invitation to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to attend the signing ceremony of the landmark peace deal between the United States and Afghan Taliban in Doha on February 29.

The invitation was extended by Qatar’s ambassador to Pakistan Saqr bin Mubarak Al-Mansouri in a meeting with Qureshi at the Foreign Office.

The US-Taliban deal will lay the ground for a crucial intra-Afghan dialogue focusing on the future of Afghanistan and a permanent ceasefire.

The deal was the result of a 14 month-long process, brokered and facilitated by Pakistan at the request of US President Donald Trump’s administration.

The deal will allow the withdrawal of the remaining 13,000 US troops from Afghanistan in return for a guarantee by Taliban that they will not allow Afghan soil to be used again by any terrorist organisation.

Trump says he will sign Taliban peace deal

Last week, Taliban deputy chief and head of Haqqani Network Sirajuddin Haqqani tried to ally concerns of critics in an opinion piece in the New York Times.

He not only expressed Taliban willingness to engage other Afghan groups to decide the future of Afghanistan, but also talked of having a relationship with the outside world including the US.

In a statement, Qureshi said Pakistan and Qatar played a key role in brokering the peace deal. He said Pakistan always maintained that solution to Afghan war lies in reconciliation.

“Today, Pakistan’s stance has been vindicated,” Qureshi said.

. . . . .
I have mixed feelings, on one hand I think Pakistan should have someone present as pakistan brokered the entire deal(i hope there are points that safeguard Pakistani interests in future).

On other hand, stay out and send some unofficial non state personal so that in future the world cannot black mail Pakistan just like in the past.

Qatar has invited Pakistan to the signing of the US-Taliban peace deal set to take place on February 29, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.

Last week, the US and the Taliban announced they were set to sign a historic agreement in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday, that would pave the way to ending America’s longest war.

During a meeting today, Qatar's ambassador to Pakistan Saqr bin Mubarak Al-Mansouri, on behalf of the Qatari government, extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Radio Pakistan reported.

Qureshi said Pakistan and Qatar had both played a "pivotal role" in the Afghan reconciliation process.

He welcomed the peace deal and said Pakistan had always held the view that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict, adding that now the world was accepting this stance.

According to Radio Pakistan, Qureshi expressed confidence that the peace deal would lead to intra-Afghan dialogue.

The foreign minister had on Saturday said Pakistan played its role and "fulfilled all promises" with America after reports of the US-Taliban deal emerged.

Qureshi went on to say now it was the responsibility of the Afghan government to take the peace process forward.

He said Pakistan wanted to see the formation of an inclusive delegation for advancing towards intra-Afghan dialogue.

"My experience shows that the people of Afghanistan want peace. It is now up to their elite whether they take forward the peace efforts or waste it by indulging in power games. All responsibility will be on them [the Afghan government] and not on Pakistan," the foreign minister had said.

US-Taliban agreement
The US and the Taliban are set to sign a historic agreement that would pave the way to ending America’s longest war, the bitter foes announced on Friday, hours after Kabul said a week-long partial truce across Afghanistan would kick off over the weekend.

If the so-called "reduction in violence" holds, it would mark a major turning point in the gruelling conflict and set the conditions for a deal that could, ultimately, pull US troops out after more than 18 years and launch Afghanistan into an uncertain future.

Both US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Taliban issued statements saying they had agreed to sign the accord on Feb 29 in Doha, following the one-week partial truce.

“Upon a successful implementation of this understanding, signing of the US-Taliban agreement is expected to move forward,” Pompeo said, adding that negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government would “start soon thereafter”.

Allah Akbar.Pakistan is the architect of peace. This is the reason, Allah created this beautiful country with an entirely new nation you never heard before in the entire human history (Pakistani). The world must recognize Pakistans' efforts for making this possible. South Asian Tiger is on way to bring peace in this beautiful world. As Trump has gratefully acknowledged on many occasions. This is a historical moment for everyone as Pakistan will represent itself in Doha Qatar to Sign the historical deal which is a peace deal. India did not get any favor from the USA despite having the tour of Donald Trump for Narender Modi. Let's see how India behave in this situation or create more problem in the region.

we don't need photo ops.

We need concrete agreement, which benefits the cause of Pakistan. Getting out of FATF is mentioned. Why we didn't push the Americans in recent meeting!! We stayed in grey list because of USA's reluctance to get us out.
Poor diplomacy and negotiations by Pakistan. Qureshi is a douche bag.

Similarly, Modi is discussing how Indians can be benefited if they do sent a strong army contingent to Afghanistan.
We are just scared, that's all.

Pakistani men with no balls.

Even the simple US pullout from Afganistan from an operational POV, and accepting the Taliban de facto rule is a plus of a galactic proportion for Pak...

A single victory in Afganistan in a millennium is worth losing the likes of BD a day...

Sultan Ghori had Kabul under control before sending his Ma'nevi Evlad and top general Kutubeddin Aybek to Delhi...

Babur Han subdued Kabul to get to Delhi...

Delhi has already started burning...
