Qatar In Talks To Purchase Russian Su-35 Fighter Aircraft: TASS

good move by qatar, real peach come with show of power not talk...........next move to buy some nuke from china.

Qatar is the size of a Pakistani village
Actually, a bit bigger than that. It only has 200k citizens, which is less than the population of the small town which I currently live in, but it has improved in the procurements.
It has reportedly bought South Africa's Denel and Turkey's BMC, as well as having some cooperation with some different fields.
I'm guessing that local manufacture isn't impossible.

How many types of aircraft does Qatar need? Its a small country with a lot of ambition.

Village....didn't mean exactly

They were apparently some talks about the S-4000 system too.. but the problem is with the biggest US base in the middle east which happens to be in Qatar..!!!? Will the Russians take that big a risk with their best weapon systems..? That is very doubtful..

She's not alone - Turkey's full weight is behind her. By the by, Arab rulers would rather trust snake but one another....
Normalizing relations with KSA or not, this is still a waste of money. I know Qatar is rich but they r just throwing money away by buying one or two squadrons of every single fighter jet available. It's a maintenance/training nightmare. Qatar should use that money to its advantage and start building up its defense industry. If they r currently aligned with Turkey then that's even better. They can invest that large sum in Turkey's defense industry and form joint ventures. This would give Qatar the ability to start manufacturing equipment for its defense needs and it would provide Turkey with even more capital for more R&D and advancement. Qatar can invest in Turkey's Altay and TFX projects. They can even probably get a deal for local manufacturing of Anka drones from Turkey if they place a large enough order. With all that money there's even other options of starting JVs with China/Ukraine/Russia and possibly even some European nations.

Agreed. But your suggestions make too much sense for it to become reality.

Can you imagine the potential of Turkish and Pakistani indigenous programs with the backing of Qatari money.

What a waste for Qatar throwing dollars to secure a temporal security rather than invest in a potentially longer term one.

Dude there's so much potential being wasted here. Most Muslim countries at one point or another have found themselves barred from certain western techs that other European countries/Israel are allowed to get. Not only that there's also the fact that u have to spend money, rely on other countries(for spares), and always be a step behind technologically if u r an importer of arms...as opposed to making them locally. Additionally being an arms manufacturer gives u the option of being an exporter...potentially earning millions and creating jobs thus improving the economy.

All these reasons SHOULD have gotten the Muslim countries to band together and carry out joint ventures with each other. There exists enough money, man power, and capabilities among the Muslim countries to create something like Typhoon(which European countries created together for themselves). If the Muslim countries did something like that there would be huge orders for it just among the member countries(Muslim countries) even in the absence of export orders. Same could be applied to tanks/artillery/ships/submarines/etc...

...but alas the leaders of these Muslim countries don't see the obvious/cheaper/better option. They are all too happy to lick boots of foreign masters, bicker between themselves, and loot their own nations :tsk:

Qatar In Talks To Purchase Russian Su-35 Fighter Aircraft: TASS
- A +
Russia and Qatar are holding talks on possible supplies of Sukhoi-35 fighter jets to the Qatari Air Force, Vladimir Kozhin, the Russian President’s aide for cooperation in defense technologies told reporters on Thursday.

"Talks are in progress," he was quoted as saying by the Russian state news agency TASS.

This is the second weapons procurement announcement after Russia’s presidential aide for military-technical cooperation, Vladimir Kozhin, singled out Qatar as an important new Russian arms export partner.

A while ago, on Jan. 25, Qatar’s Ambassador to Russia Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah told TASS that Doha was holding “advanced negotiations” with Moscow over the purchase of S-400 air missile defense systems.

Since the start of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) blockade against Qatar in June, Doha has upgraded its military capabilities to defend itself against what it perceives as aggressive actions from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The Qatari Defense Ministry had also signed a landmark military technology sharing agreement with Moscow in October last year.

Why they want Su-35???

F-15
Mirage 2000
Eurofighter
Rafale
Su-35

What is Qatar up to!

They are on shopping spree of fighter jets, trying to get political leverage.

Where will they find all the pilots???? I read somewhere in this forum that that ex Pak pilots, now in service in Qatar, would be sent for getting training for Rafael....

If true then bad news for India. Pakistan should ask Qatar to finance it's fighter aircrafts deal on soft loans.
