And aren't S-117 better than AL-31FP ???
And news of the upgrade of our MKIs to Super Sukois was " new engine" and not "upgraded engine". Was that another reporting jem ???

Higher thrust is likely, the S117 is based on the AL 31, but includes more changes, just like the TVC system is different too.
Actually, there was no official source so far, that said anything about an engine change, what's clear is overhaul of the airframe to extend life, RCS reduction, new cockpit displays and avionics, AESA radar (Bars or Zhuk) integration of Brahmos.
