Of course there are Russian soldiers in Donbas. There are millions of Russian vacationers in Donbas. They are not sent by the Russian military or the Russian government.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine's pursuit of NATO membership posed a danger to European security and that the West was using Kiev's bid to join the Atlantic alliance as a way to fuel confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.

The Kiev parliament's renunciation of Ukraine's neutral status this week as a step toward joining NATO has outraged Moscow and deepened the worst confrontation between Russia and the West since the end of the Cold War.

Lavrov is the latest Russian official to speak out against the Kiev's bid in recent days, and who have made clear Russia would see the NATO membership of such a strategic former Soviet republic with a long common border as a direct military threat.

"There are a few Western countries that want to maintain the crisis in Ukraine and to maintain and boost the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia, including through provocative efforts toward membership in the Atlantic alliance," he said.

It will take time for Ukraine to join NATO but i think Ukraine will be joining EU in coming months.

EU is economic union and this agreement means free trade between Ukraine and EU member states. All the current members have EU have first signed Association agreement then later become full member.

  • Slovakia EAA (1995), acceded to the EU in 2004
  • Poland EAA (1994), acceded to the EU in 2004
  • Lithuania EAA (1998),acceded to the EU in 2004

The deal will establish a deep political association and economic integration between the EU and Ukraine and provide for mutual free market access.

In addition, support will be provided to the displaced businessmen who are trying to upgrade their own business on the territories under Ukraine's control.

Ukraine to raise EUR 500 mln loan to rebuild Donbas| Ukrinform

KYIV, December 26 /Ukrinform/. Ukraine and Germany in January 2015 will prepare a joint statement on an untied loan from Germany to rebuild infrastructure in Donbas.

"Pursuant to the agreements reached by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the governments of Germany and Ukraine are taking measures to prepare a joint statement on issuing Ukraine an untied financial loan worth EUR 500 million. All of the necessary procedures for the approval and receipt of the loan will be completed in January 2015," he said.

These funds will be spent on the rebuilding and modernization of the power, heat, water supply and sewage infrastructure, and on the restoration and construction of schools and hospitals.
