Purging within MQM begins, says Altaf Hussain

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee in Pakistan and London have been dissolved, reported Express News on Thursday.

A new Rabita Committee will formed and announced on Saturday at a meeting scheduled by chief Altaf Hussain.

For overseeing matters temporarily, a seven member committee has been formed which include senior representatives of the party.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain dissolved the party’s Karachi Tanzeemi Committee on Tuesday night, following complaints received from his workers regarding the committee’s inefficiency.

The move to dissolve the committee comes days after a incident took place at the MQM headquarters of Nine Zero early Sunday morning, when workers of the party manhandled not only members of the MQM’s Coordination Committee but journalists as well. This action of the workers followed Altaf Hussain’s criticism of the MQM’s Coordination Committee.

Altaf Hussain criticised the MQM Coordination Committee in a telephonic address for failing to act against those who insulted him. This charged emotional party workers against the Committee.

Altaf’s criticism of the committee was in relation to allegations put forward by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan of murdering senior female party worker, Zahra Shahid Hussain.

MQM dissolves Rabita Committee in Karachi, London

LONDON: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday announced to dissolve its Rabita Committee (coordination committee) in Karachi and London, a day after expulsion of few local party leaders over violation of party discipline, SAMAA reported.

MQM’s Admin Committee, which runs administrative affairs at party headquarters Nine Zero, has also been dissolved.

Sources said that the decision to dissolve the Rabita Committee is continuity of the steps which according to MQM chief Altaf Hussain are being taken “as part of the process of cleansing unwanted elements from the MQM”.

Reports said Thursday’s decision was taken by Altaf Hussain in the wake of violation of party discipline by some of the office-bearers and complaints against them.

A seven-member committee has been constituted to supervise party affairs for the time being till names for a new Coordination Committee are announced in Saturday’s workers’ convention of MQM, according to reports.

The MQM has already dissolved its Karachi Tanzeemi Committee (KTC), terminating basic membership of KTC incharge Hammad Siddiqui and suspending three other local leaders –Saleem Tajik, Shakeel Omar and Farooq Saleem.

Altaf Hussain announced on Wednesday that the process of cleansing undesirable elements from the MQM had commenced and the same would continue till all the unwanted persons were purged from the party.

Hussain has warned that as there is complete ban on the collection of donation in the party, any office-bearer or worker of the party was found guilty of collecting donation from anyone, including traders and pushcarts, would lose their basic membership of the party. – SAMAA
