Pune bans scarves while driving to check terrorism

Yep, thats what i meant. Most of the NCP members are Hindu.

Webby you don't seem to get it. HINDU women wear scarves, to protect their faces and lungs.

Oh and India is a Hindu-majority country (!!) . All governments comprise mostly of Hindus.

^Some more than the others of course.

But i see your point. If that is the case then those who are not doing it for religious reasons should take it off for their own security, and those doing it for religious reasons should be exempt..

and what if Pune women cover face with paloo of their Sari.

Would Indian police stop them from wearing sari

damn at the end they will ask women to drive in natural form.

Now seriously its a silly move on grounds that women driving scooties cant hide their gender. Only the most idiot kind of Policeman would be blind enough not to diffrentiate between a woman and a man.
What is silly is that you still fail to see that this has nothing to do with head scarf for religious purposes. As its been said many times here, the women (and many men too) from all religions and walks of life wrap their head and faces with a makeshift scarf to protect themselves from the heat, sun and emissions of neighboring vehicles when riding on two wheelers. The article also says that many women are against this ban, there is no specifications of which religion they follow, or what kind of gear they wear to cover their faces.
Try to actually analyze the matter first before turning everything into a gender and/or Hindu/Muslim issue; its rather unoriginal and boring. I've been to Pune, its a vibrant city where people from all over the world live, work and interact by being themselves. You'll find everyone from conservative religious groups to foreign students from around the world to nudist Caucasian Hare Krishnas living in this city.

This is first and foremost a critical security issue; there are radical nutjobs going around planting bombs all over major cities. The cops need to see the faces of the crowd so as to inhibit the level of discretion the miscreants are afforded right now. It is a matter of public safety as well. If someone is so offended by not being able to have the right to cover their faces in the backdrop of the current problem, they're more than welcome to stay at home for the time being.

It is a matter of comprehensive public security. The police need to make sure that nobody has their faces covered.

Really Energon? Gosh I never knew. There's the Osho commune of course....but they aren't related to ISKCON as far as I know.

The long term solution is to improve air quality in the city so that women don't have to wear gloves and masks.

Kind a incentive to reduce pollution!
I remember few western states tried some thing similar despite the fact they had not much pollution! Shall we consider it as a state of mental slavery of indian authorities!

How about considering making india a country where citizens are not targeted for having non-hindu beliefs?
A country where minorities have equal rights as hindus?

^^ Did anyone mention that it is for minorities or you just assumed that?

And does that suggestion work the other way round for your country too or you feel Pakistan is an example to the world on how minorities shoyld be treated?

What is silly is that you still fail to see that this has nothing to do with head scarf for religious purposes.

And i also didnt mean that either.
You failed to understand what i meant :)

I already said that mostly non-Muslim Indian women wear that as protection against dust and pollution right??

So how on earth own Indian that too Hindu women gonna bomb cities while wearing scarfs ??

And BTW its silly in the first place to assume that bike riders can do much terrorism. They can only resort to firing or throwing a grenade or even if they throw a bomb they can be chased and caught.
The real threat is from those who do solid planning and planting bombs which even the highly professional people failed to contain.

Indian women don't wear scarf.

Burkhas are not scarves. They are total cover.

Ask the Red Mosque mullahman, that brave man, who tells all Islamic people to be men and then runs out to save his skin in a burkha and proves that he is a woman at heart! But justify it as takiya! ;)

:what: arent we talking about the sacrfs or piece of cloth Indian women wear in Pune ????

BTW its such a pitty that a learned person like you consider wearing scarfs as some kind of taboo :)

And if i am not wrong the Vedic texts also prove that Hindu women are asked to cover their heads and lower their gaze.

Anyway im not going to question your religion as you know better than me :)

Indian women don't wear scarf.

And we are talking about Pune ???? right ??

SO what a contradiction either your are right or other Indians on the forum are wrong ????

herez
I have been to and lived in major Maharashtrian cities - Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and many women and even men who drive 2 wheelers cover their faces with scarves while driving. Women even wear arm-length gloves:

There is a lot of dust and smoke in the air which can result in allergies, asthma and other problems.

I think what Salim is saying, is that Indian (hindu) women don't wear scarves for religious reasons.

This is the very purpose of wearing scarves while riding two wheelers.

Scarves are not worn while riding in cars or public transport systems and not worn when girls are not driving.

this has nothing to do with any religion.

Frankly it is a silly thread about a topic which is a non-starter.

A kind of yellow journalism.

I was also not talking about wearing scarfs for religous purposes thats what i was asking him that we are talking about Puna women and we know why they are wearing
