Pune bans scarves while driving to check terrorism

I think it all depends on what is a scarf.

If it only keeps the eye to be seen, that may not be a good thing!

One should ask for more details as to why it is banned.

Banning for the sake of banning is incorrect!

the news says

"A large number of women, including mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale and several Women's organisations have opposed the police ban."

Now as far as Indian women are easy twith bans i have no problem with it ;)

You may not have, but I have.

I want to know the reason.

Anything done without an explanation that is justifiable is not acceptable.

I may agree to a burkha that only has the netting, but a scarf? Whatever for?

In Pune most women irresp of religion cover their face with the dupatta.. they look like Kung Fu warriors..
the Deobandi Mosl.em women resort to Burkha, the Bohra Women to their Psychedelic Nightie Burkha.. ;) ..

How does that look like.

You got me interested. ;)

I am not like you charged with blind nationalism.

Unless the police justifies, it is a stupid order and should be fought.

:) if you tell this to other indian members here who are saying the ban is justified.

Vinod2070,

Nothing exciting really.. as you can see by the attached image..

but the first time you see a Bohra women, wearing a pink polka dot head scarf and a matching nightie(burka), and speaking the queen's language, is an unforgettable experience... almost as much as seeing women in Pune wearing those ninja masks..

Brigadier Sir,

I agree with cops the ban should be removed.. Tourists to Pune should be given an opportunity to appreciate the abundant natural beauty during the day as well..

The ban comes at a time when numerous Indian cities are being targeted by terrorist groups. Given that these militants operate by taking cover among civilians, it is only logical that the police forces will do everything in their power to reduce their mobility. Getting people to not cover their faces when driving around on two wheelers certainly helps.
However commuters, women especially, in the city of Pune are used to covering their faces when traveling on certain modes of transport; losing this ability creates discomfort. Also, there's always the concern of losing civil liberties over time on account of threats. This is why many people, organizations and prominent civilians such as the mayor oppose these policies using a variety of communication mediums ranging from the press to the blogosphere. Chances are that until things pacify a bit, the ban will stay and then it will be eased off.

Welcome to democracy.

You're missing the point. They're both right.

Oh wait... I forgot to add the token irritating smiley :)

The present commisioner of Pune had implemented this rule in Nagpur. If police think it could be mis-used then it is justified.

Public may have different opinions justifiably Pune ladies are up against this rule.

Terrorist may mis-use this they are known to use novel methods to strike.

btw I never knew :) was irritating.

I never knew Indians are irritated by :) also ;)
Obviously there is much you don't know about Indians. Not surprisingly really given that you project my personal opinions on a trivial matter on to all "Indians."

P.S. I've technically never been Indian in my life.

At least, I believe it is not as bad as the slit eye Burqa that may be soon enforced if the Taliban enter the gates of the capital of the NWFP.

Aha the jokes on you in NWFP they been wearing this long before Taliban came to power I call it a shuttlecock burqa.
