Public School Textbooks Continue to Teach Intolerance

Dear Please
Stop wasting my time. I have My Mothers Books Upstairs. I sometimes help her prepare her Lectures, and as i said there is nothing inside them that preaches HATE AGAINST ANY RACE OR RELIGION.
SO STOP EMBARRASING YOURSELF.

You have expressed your opinion without giving any evidence.
He has been doing that a lot now a days and its getting annoying.

yes, Islam is the only right path. it is mentioned in quran. Allah said in Quran that "i have chosen islam as your religion" that's it. it's the final seal after all the divine religions.no other religion will be accepted in the court of Allah in the next world after the advent of islam. but nowhere in islam it is written to mistreat others who want to live peacefully. but yes, if they do mischief then reply in the same coin. the major threat to islam are the liberals and extremists who are twisting all the teachings in order to support their own fuc**ing agenda. what's happening today is not something new. it happened when the english agent started a new sect in arabia in order to weaken the ottoman empire. it happened in sub continent. the true followers have always been lesser in number and they always will be. the majority of the humans always flow with the tide .
the need of today is the true knowledge of islam should be given to next generation and groom them into tolerant true practical muslims who stick to the basic principles of islam and not into some liberals who are westerners using an islamic cover or the extremists who are barbarians using islam cover.
i dont want any comment by any indian as i have not talked about your religion.
:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall: and the same religion and religious people are still used being used the foreign elements to spread choas in pakistan and the subcontinent was divided because of extreme religious ideologies and differences.Secularism promotes nationality rather than a religion and wherever there is a nationalism those nations are difficult to divide.
Only a few political things are blamed on Hindus (of subcontinent ) and perhaps a phrase or two in the entire curriculum against hindus. At most, those negative things if combined together will only make two or three pages. However, many teachers try to say negative things about other religions on their own initiative.
Textbooks have little such material but the teachers usually "explain" those things which are bieng talked about in the OP.

Still, despite all the propaganda, I won't classify the majority of those texts as hate material. *
Now imagine when you teach those one or two phrases to millions ........

You seem to have no idea why subcontinent was divided. Just so you know religious clergy was against creation of Pakistan. Religion had nothing to do with creation of Pakistan. It was fear of suppression and exploitation by majority against minority on the basis of religion that created Pakistan. Our forefathers were intelligent enough to see what is happening today. They made the right choice.

The Britishers were responsible for the partition and they were the main players of this game. The used a religion to fulfill their agendas. What you are talking is just what a common Pakistani get,s in school or from his equally brainwashed elders.

How often have you spend time with people who were living in pre-partition time? Because I have spend hours listening to their first hand account. My understanding comes from their personal experiences. You have absolutely no idea what was going on then.

Hi :) Most PDF members here from Pakistan know how it really was to grow up in Pakistan and studying all those school texts where Islam was the only religion which qualified as a religion and none other religion was even mentioned. If the other religion was mentioned ,you definitely read negative things about that religion. They were infidels, traitors or you have been kept completely ignorant about the realities and good things other religions have.I remember all my teachers not just the islamiat teacher talked bad about other religions specially the hindus openly in a class room. That,s the beautiful tolerant culture which prevails in our schools. My mindset only got changed when i went abroad .Now even after becoming adults most Pakistanis take them as second class citizens, traitors or in worst case scenario as inferior human beings. From the very start they were been told islam is the only religion which qualifies as "deen" and most of the time they were deliberately kept ignorant about the other religions and religious minorities in Pakistan or whenever they got a chance they tried to portray them as evil and harmful.Pakistan’s public school textbooks contain deeply troubling content that portrays non-Muslim citizens as outsiders, unpatriotic, and inferior; are filled with errors; and present widely-disputed historical “facts” as settled history.Missing from these textbooks are any references to the rights of religious minorities and their positive contributions to Pakistan’s development. These textbooks sadly reflect the alarming state today of religious freedom in Pakistan. A country’s education system, including its textbooks, should promote religious tolerance, not close the door to cooperation and coexistence.
Unfortunately that,s the mindset most Pakistanis have towards other religions .We complain too much about religious extremism in our country but at the same we plant the seeds of extremism through our school texts.A youngster who in his school years read about other religions or at least was not poisoned by religious hate mongering is difficult to brainwash than the one who just saw and read islam as one and only religion and others as yahudi and nusrani.
Below are just my few thoughts that i think should be put in action to groom a new generation of tolerant Pakistanis.
  • The textbooks should reflect that religious freedom is a constitutional protection provided to all Pakistanis;
  • The curriculum should inculcate a sense of constructive patriotism, rather than a sense of fear;
  • Peaceful coexistence and religious diversity in Pakistan should be acknowledged so that students learn to respect all faiths; and
  • Historical omissions and misrepresentations of different events should be eliminated, and diverse viewpoints should be included. @Zibago @haviZsultan

Sir, without providing any solid evidences or even without a single page from any text book, you are generalizing it all.

Let me tell you this, Islam is the religion of peace. And teaches you to respect all the other religions. Christians who believe Jesus is son of God. (Maa'z Allah). One of the biggest shirk it is. They used to worship in masjids and Rasool Allah (saw) gave the permission.

Isn't it one huge example of tolerance?

Yes there are some intolerance people and trust me every religion out there has group of people with so much intolerance toward other faiths. Pakistan isn't intolerance society in whole.

Hey let me give you a recent example of tolerance of Pakistanis.

http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Punjab:-Muslims-fund-the-construction-of-a-Catholic-church-37381.html

Pakistani Muslims finically supported their fellow Christians to build the church.

Isn't it tolerance of religion?

STOP GENERALIZING THINGS.
PLEASE!

most pakistanis here tell us that there is no such chapter in the text book they read. Does it vary from state to state(like in India where we got state education boards)?

Yes the curriculum is different in states . Most of the private schools in my province mostly have oxford press or other such foreign press books specially of English and science. As far as government approved textbooks you will find a line or a phrase or two about non-Muslims rather let me be clear about Hindus (before partition), regarding creation of Pakistan. That's it. You may find some reference to Muhammad Bin Qasim and his conquest of Sindh and reference to Raja Dahir in geography books of classes from 8th to 10th grade.

Kids hardly remember these things. I remember our teachers never emphasised on such hatred . In my opinion instead of blabbering about books at lower level we should check the mass media propaganda online sites and other such material that is influencing Pakistani and Muslim youth forcing them into extremism. These books have little affect

.
The examples are same like.. if West condemns Socialism/Communism in their textbooks, movies etc.
It means that they are criticizing Russian or other racial groups associated with communism?
Similarly, if a history book is giving examples of Shuddi or Sanghatan organization, does this mean that the books are brewing hatred towards hindus?
If a book give reference to Sikh atrocities on muslim migrants in 1947, is this wrong? Why it should not be taught?
Similarly, what is wrong in teaching about crusades?
One needs to grow up.
There is no way, you can teach history as per your liking. Each Country or State teaches history from their PoV

most of the people have disagreed with what you have said . it is the mis interpretation of islam by the secularists and the extremists that is the root cause of all the problems. people like you and fazl ulllah are equally dangerous for the ideology of the islam and are playing important role in de tracking muslims. it is the nationalism which has made today's muslims so weak that muslim countries are being bombarded one by one for the last 15 years or so and the rest of the muslims don't even utter a word against the aggression of the NATO. all anti islamic forces are united in the shape of NATO being secretly led by israel. they attacked iraq, afghanistan , libya , syria one by one directly or through proxies but the muslim nations are silent . why?because of this nationalism and materialism which you are preaching. we don't care for the muslims of syria or libya or any other country just because they are from other nations and we are enjoying our lives. the muslims of syria are converting to christianity in many european countries and all of us are responsible in it. we will be questioned that when "muhajirs" made their hijrat in 21st century where were the "ansaars"? if we look at the west even they are united under some form of agreement. a war of a single NATO country means all the member countries will fight for it. we muslims also have to get united under the flag of ummah and work for each other other wise we will be wiped out from the map of the world one by one . today you are not helping any one tomorrow no one will come for your help. Allah has clearly mentioned in Quran" aur Allah ki rassi ko mazboti say thamay rakho or taffarukay main mat parho" . that " taffuruka" is the sectarian difference, which the mulvi teaches, and the nationalism which people like you teach. i am not entirely against nationalism. it is good to some extent but no where in quran it is mentioned to give preference to your country , tribe etc over ummah.
now please don't make argument for the sake of argument. most of the pakistsanis here have disagreed with the "distorted facts" you provided.

You need to read up a lot of history. Show me an example, where British uses the religion to divide hindu, muslims?
Have you ever read about Maratha reign, Sikh rule long before 1947?
Or have you ever care to read about 1938 Congress rule?

.
today he is preaching nationalism tomorrow he will be preaching provincialism.

what you said is true, however making hindus and sikhs look like enemy does not help once you got your county.

both are true.. there was hindu muslim division and also british wanted to exploit it.. british certainly did not create it. it was already there. in any case, it makes no sense to create a generation of kids hating your own minorities.

I do not see any hate towards the hindu religion itself. However being Muslim we are proud and believe it is the right path. It is my religion and I have every right to practice it while ensuring I extend the same right to those who follow other religions. I am not apologetic for being a Muslim. Similarly Hindus, Christians and Sikhs have every right to practice their religion, identify with it and be proud of it.

As for textbooks, there is no demonisation of Hindu religion. OP is just trying to follow the new fashion of liberals without much substance.
