Traffic congestion is a big issue in a lot of cities throughout the world. Are there any major ongoing infrastructure projects tackling this in Bangladesh?

Once the Dhaka Metro is completed and activated by 4Q19, we will see a majority of the traffic problem resolved. The govt. also need to break the transport-mafia grip on Dhaka's Bus system, which benefits a lot of govt. bigwigs.

They are also going to move most major apparel factories to outside of Dhaka - which will help some as garments workers are a huge public housing burden and end up living in slums.

There are also moves to open new suburbia toward Eastern Dhaka, which will ease the pressure on Dhaka's core.

Govt. offices need to be de-centralized as well, which has been in the offing for a while....

@Black_cats I am no big fan of the Sheikh either, but decent people don't cross certain lines of decency. I personally would not draw caricatures of the father of any nation and let it stand. Stooping that low (and some supposedly responsible and mature Pakistanis defending that childish behavior) is bizarre.

We have all seen where recent Pakistani opinion in this forum is going. The forum is marked as a trouble spot by a sovereign govt. now.

The fact that someone drew a caricature is not the main point. The point is WHAT drove them to that low.

They can do here in PDF what their govt. will NEVER do. They can't.

Take the case of ACI 318-14 (ACI is American Concrete Institute) has hundreds of pages clarifying all the details of design analysis of the structures. The subject is so vast that ACI has clarified many detailed design methods. How about BD? Please ask the civil engineers.

Think of AASHO (previously AASHTO). It is American Association of State Highway Officials. It is composed of the design and construction of roads, highways, and bridges. It is also very thick. A highway design engineer has to learn the code of design practice from such a standard.

Your assumption may be incorrect in the sense that there may be one or two booklets in BD, but not heavy volumes such as the BS (British), DIN (German), NF (France) or ACI (US).

Its not about standard... its about the sanctioned capacity of the road.
If the budget is too low the road is built for horse cart, then they will break down in 6 months while they are used by 30-40 ton trucks.

So, use the standard to build good roads that can bear 40ton trucks. Who stops it? But, the design engineers must know how to compact and measure the strength of sub-base soil below the road surface (CBR value) the exact method of which is not found in the engineering textbooks but found elaborately in the Standards like AASHO.

Any progress on the Dhaka Chittagong elevated expressway? I don't even understand why we need a few hundred km elevated expressway, what will e the cost? Like 50/100 billion?

so you are not the second richest country in S.Asia with 2nd biggest gdp and an unimaginable amount of forex and current account surplus? in fact I can link you to threads here, where you all say that you have so much that after fulfilling BD needs you can spare some to give charity to poor Pakistan (if you all felt like it)

There is no need to be sensitive about this. We in Bangladesh did not cause this turn of affairs, and have no skin in that game still. However the fact remains that our policies and conservative fiscal principles have helped our people and reserves. Unimaginable or not, reserves are certainly higher than Pakistan. Please google, you will know.

Good governance need to be brought back to Pakistan, and only Pakistanis can decide when that will be.

Propaganda to the country - most Bangladeshis are not at all obsessed at all about Pakistan. We have our own problems to take care of.

That freeway will happen past 2025. Not in the near future. Four-laning was the first step.
