What's new

Proposed KEZ set to get licence, will host heavy industries like car and steel manufacturing plants

Why not? Kind of expensive at crores of taka - but sure.

I see them in the US all the time, in use by touring bands, musicians, celebrities....

I also think Shahrukh khan and Salman Khan have some....

RV cabinets, beds etc. are not available locally - you have to import and custom fit them, like they do in India.
well, i've got this carpenter that makes furniture for our family.... do the buses themselves cost crores of taka alone?

If you wanted a double decker that would be a crore (Volvo and Scania double deckers).

Your best bet is to get a reliable Hyundai Universe assembled by HNS motors locally (body only without any interior like seats etc.). Then customize the interior using standard RV cabinets, kitchen hobs, shower systems, Bed systems, Potable, gray and black water systems, 12V electrical systems etc.

Indiana in the US is the headquarters for RV manufacture. While Italian RV's are even better. I don't know who supplies Italian RV stuff in Italy, do some googling.

BD Army has standardized on the Hyundai Universe, so that means parts supply locally is well assured. Not as good as HINO (Aftab Motors) but pretty good.

Bus Transport companies have started adopting them in the last two years....

looks decent enough and hyundai quality have improved significantly in the past two decade... and for a dude like me who would not drive it regularly... even a brand new hyundai seems overkill... forget volvo and scania.
so i guess maybe get a second hand 5 years old hyundai like the above and spec it to RV... so you can take the family on ocassional vacations to the beach :)

You sire - are completely unaware of the state of erosion and monsoon weather in Bangladesh during the wet season. Bitumen Carpeting is needed EVERY year.
So much of hollow talking by this Noakhalia guy. He talks bullshits and gives excuses as if doing so will stop the rainfall and no more asphalt paving will be needed. Always beating about the bush but claims himself a patriot. Stupid @Bilal9 you should learn more about a topic before you indulge in giving suggestions. What a brat?? Learn how to stabilize the soil and how to use a proper method to build a road.

@Atlas, @Nilgiri

Most of the roads are designed for 5 tons vehicle with thin layer of bitumen. I think overall road carpeting design is changed quite a bit recently and seen that in Uttara roads in Dhaka. They are pretty good. Not sure about the link roads in the upazilla level.

In a normal and conscious country, the engineers of the road department would study the roads which have performed better than average and apply the better method to other road works in other localities. But, this normal thing is not happening in Bangladesh.

The GoB should establish a system whereby engineers take sample cores of the Uttara road and test them in the lab to know the compressive strength, and flexibility, density, and composition of bitumen, etc. Let the results be published in the country's engineering Journal. This is how all of today's developed countries have learned from the field for many decades. But, anyway, BD still lives in a different age, 500 years behind. It is without a system and is run by the rule of thumb.

Actually standard were made during pakistan period keeping budget in mind. There is certainly some standard and followed by the engineers.

"Bitumen carpeting" is certainly not needed "every year" in South East Asia (which has same monsoon intensity more or less) given they invest properly into it.

Dhaka gets around 2.1 metres of rain a year.

Singapore gets around 2.3 metres of rain a year.

https://www.holiday-weather.com/singapore/averages/

https://www.weather-atlas.com/en/bangladesh/dhaka-climate#rainfall

In fact you got to visit Singapore to look at how they invested into road drainage and also the quality of road material and building too.

So yeah just another lame uneducated excuse by the same guy..."blame the weather".

As I always say, the country is not run by any Professionals whatever may be their academic qualifications or their status in the govt. This is why they depend upon Heaven to do all kinds of tedious jobs instead of thinking, planning and doing by themselves. This is why the engineers do not think of stabilizing the soil beneath the roads and do not make a proper calculation of the probable quantity of rainfall on the basis of "Intensity of rainfall" data available in the Meteorological Department to design the drainage and disposal system.

So, this is why it is necessary to codify all the civil/structural design matters in the country. A govt engineering commission should study all the codes and standards of the important countries to do so. In Japan, a man can find places to get standards like JIS, JAS, DIN, NF, BS, ACI, ASCE, AASHTO/AASHO, ASCE, and others. BD has no such institution and there are no local codes and standards. The engineering problems are faced with political jargon and by the rule of thumb. Ultimately, important projects are being awarded to foreign companies.

. . .
Car price is 3-4 time expensive in Bangladesh compared to Pakistan. Bangladeshi government discourage car ownership due to traffic congestion. It has nothing to do with GDP.
Traffic congestion is a big issue in a lot of cities throughout the world. Are there any major ongoing infrastructure projects tackling this in Bangladesh?

Actually standard were made during pakistan period keeping budget in mind. There is certainly some standard and followed by the engineers.
Take the case of ACI 318-14 (ACI is American Concrete Institute) has hundreds of pages clarifying all the details of design analysis of the structures. The subject is so vast that ACI has clarified many detailed design methods. How about BD? Please ask the civil engineers.

Think of AASHO (previously AASHTO). It is American Association of State Highway Officials. It is composed of the design and construction of roads, highways, and bridges. It is also very thick. A highway design engineer has to learn the code of design practice from such a standard.

Your assumption may be incorrect in the sense that there may be one or two booklets in BD, but not heavy volumes such as the BS (British), DIN (German), NF (France) or ACI (US).

It really amaze me some troll thinks others will get warning by mod when a ban is long overdue for him. It is just a matter of right time at right moment.

.
Look at this shameless guy lol, went begging and groveling and got slapped so hard (had all his whinge posts here deleted)...yet still crying for more:

Must have cried a lot to see mod thank my comments. It explains why BD people are ranked where they are in US....scraping the bottom. Them reaching at least somewhat reasonable rank is the real thing that is OVERDUE....rather than crying eternally with the typical 3-million rona drona feelz about things online.
