What's new

Private shipyards to construct four 40000 ton LPD!!!

Neither is the America class an LDP, nor an LHD, since it doesn't have a well dock for amphibious landing crafts anymore (at least not the initially planned and produced versions). It's basically a VTOL aircraft carrier like the INS Viraat and not and LDP like INS Jalashwa.
IN on the otherside made clear in the RFI for the LDP competition, that they want a well deck and a size of not more than 200m in length, which shows more to smaller LDPs (possibly LHDs) than larger carriers.

Ours will be largest LPD with capability to host large number of choppers and may be few F-35.

Not according to the RFI, which as said limits the length to 200m max and if the design is meant to be an LPD not an LHD, it will be limited in landing spots and hangar space too. So we are talking about half a dozen helicopters at max!
And no we will never buy F35Bs, because it makes no sense to buy a very limited number of expensive stealth fighters to be operated on LDPs where they could take off vertically only (limits payload capability even further), when IN's actual aircraft carriers are limited to 4th and 4.5th gen mid to low capable fighters.

IN is not the USN, not even the USMC and India has not the same operational aims as America. We don't need large and highly capable amphibious forces, the ONLY aim of IN is even to protect our Islands in the unlikely case that a foreign force or even pirates would take over some of them. Projecting power in Indias case means, having a credible 2nd strike capability against China, being able to attack China in the east via subs or carriers and increasing disaster relief capabilities.

This is bad reporting, there are reasons LPD don't go bigger than San Antonio or 071. Fear of loss, 40,000 ton would carry too much assets and losing one would be disastrous. Marines are usually the elites, you can't go around losing regiments of it.

I think the 071 can fit one fully armed Battalion. Even that is a lot to put on one ship.

Unless India has some crazy plan to make sure it cannot be sunk ever, which the Americans cannot guarantee, then this won't happen.

Writer has mixed 2 different plans in one. What will be of 40000 tons is our future replenishment ships aka fleet support ship while our LPDs will be of 20000 tons aka multirole support vessels. He has mixed FSSs tonnage to MRSV is all I can say.

Our Indian friends really have a natural inclination to do grandiose things to impress others。:enjoy:

Craving for greatness and success is thing, acutally completing is another。

4.16 billion USD for 4 LPDs?

Isn't that a tad too expensive?

China’s Type 071 LPD costs a mere 1.2 billion yuan,about 200 million USD at current exchange rates。:enjoy:
