By DUBAI (Al Arabiya)

A big portion of Saudi wealth is owned by its women reaching $11.9 billion cash, Almasa Capital’s asset management reported in a study.

Despite the big cash at hand, the study revealed that these Saudi women still feel disempowered due to political and social constraints.

The released study published by the London-based al-Hayat newspaper showed that Saudi women make up to 45 percent of the Saudi population, and 65 percent of the 79 percent of the literate female population work, however 78.3 percent of female college graduates do not work.
Regionally

Quarter of Middle East’s wealth is owned by women however a sense of dissatisfaction and inequality loom Middle East women.

Also, in another study done by Asharq Alawsat newspaper, sound financial advice is absent and particularly missing to aid the financial complexities and needs of Middle East women.

Rich women needs differ from their male counterparts, the study said.

Middle East women own about 22 percent of the region’s wealth translating into half a trillion dollars in 2009, however lower than the 27 percent or $20 trillion of the accumulated wealth for all women globally.

Wealth figures of Middle Eastern women are close to their European women counterparts, however surpass Russian women’s wealth figure.

Western Europe women own 26 percent of their region’s wealth, and 21 percent for Russian women.

Also, Boston Consulting reports that Middle East women’s wealth did not take a sudden leap but it was a gradual increase, and it rose exponentially at the start of the financial crisis, affecting assets under managements internationally.

Boston Consulting’s study polled 500 female and interviewed 70 specialized women in banking services.

The study predicted that women’s wealth will grow by 8 percent starting at the end of 2014, slightly higher than the 7 percent witnessed between 2004 and 2009.

Middle East will grow by 8 percent; however emerging markets from Africa, Asia and Latin America are predicted to have higher growth rates.

Saudi Princess Basma bint Saud has accused the Riyadh regime of corruption, saying a vast majority of the Persian Gulf country's population are living in poverty.

The princess, a niece of King Abdullah and a social activist and prominent supporter of women's rights in Saudi Arabia, has said that some 95 percent of the country live below the country's poverty-line and have no access to water and electricity.

This is while the remaining five percent enjoy the country's wealth.

She also accused Saudi officials of pocketing more than USD 21 billion that were supposed to be invested in order to expand the holy mosque in Mecca.

Mohammad al-Qahtani, the head of the Saudi Civil and political Rights Association, confirmed the allegations, saying that the country's princes possess all the power and wealth in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Qahtani further accused the regime of holding thousands of political prisoners without charging them.

Saudi Arabia has long been accused of having one of the world's most repressive regimes.

Several right groups and international bodies including the Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have frequently condemned the Saudi regime for their widespread violation of human rights.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world to ban women, both Saudi and foreign nationals, from driving.

The state has no written ban on women driving, but Saudi law requires citizens to use a locally issued license while in the country. Such licenses are not issued for women, making it effectively illegal for them to drive.

Women are also barred from voting, except for chamber of commerce elections in two cities in recent years, while no woman can become a cabinet member.

Less than three months ago, the princess had called on Saudi rulers to be more open to change, stressing that no Arab country is immune to the wave of popular movements in the region.

The leaders are the problem in Saudi

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are among the most repressive regimes in the world but according to the americans and its allies Iran with its elected government is a repressive regime!

I call you to visit here someday. You obviously have never been in Saudi Arabia seeing the link you posted. So please come visit here one day and see for yourself how this country is. You saw with your own eyes what I meant when I used to say "Propaganda" and THIS article is a prime example of that. When there is something true I will be the first to confirm it I don't believe in lying to yourself and the problem will disappear I am extremely critical of my country but I am also shocked by the amount of hate and misconceptions everyone is throwing at us.

I am sorry but on this occasion I have to disagree with you. America can not afford for US $ not to be the reserve currency. Actually they can afford anything but this. One of the main reasons that Iraq was invaded was because Saddam had started to refuse to accept US $. Iran is chastisised because they will not accept US dollar for their oil. Libyan revolution was a facade because Gadaffi started about a year previously to be paid in gold etc for libyan oil. Simply de Gaulle's comment about the dollar being "America's exorbitant privilege" conference in 1965 ended the government cartel which tried to keep gold price fixed at $35 per ounce. Bretton Woods Accord gave the U.S. economic and monetary advantages, it was agreed that the US $ be the world's reserve currency replacing Sterling, which performed this function for over 100 years due to the classical gold standard. The US is allowed to print ious aka US$ which people around the world accept. The biggest aid to retaining this reserve currency status is the acceptance by the likes of the saudies for oil. All countries need oil and to pay for oil they need dollars. If a few large oil producers refused to accept the US dollar the americans would not be able to afford to pay for fuel for their predators and their jets, So you see Saudies have a big danda which they will not use. If Pakistan had this danda America would not dare to violate paks sovnty.
