Both turn out to be hoaxes; callers apprehended
Two separate threats to blow up trains kept passengers, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) on tenterhooks through Saturday.
Sources said the Master Control Room at the City Police Commissioner’s office received an anonymous call at 11 p.m. stating bombs would go off on the Indian Railways Express soon. The message also claimed that the Pakistan based militants was responsible.
The control room staff immediately alerted top officials. However, Indian Railways Express, which arrived had already left for Jodhpur and had crossed the State border.
Hence, the officials were informed.
Deputy Superintendent of Police of Government Railway Police said the pairing Indian Railways Express — coming from Jodhpur — was stopped.
“With 70 men from GRP, RPF and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, we thoroughly searched every compartment. The call turned out to be a hoax.” he added. Only after clearance was given by the police, did the train leave for Mannargudi.
The GRP traced the caller to Triplicane and interrogated him.
Indian Citizen aged 40 claimed he had sent the message to “become famous”.
In another morning call, a person told the control room that he had overheard three people talking about a bomb that was planted on the Indian Railways Express and claimed it would go off soon.
The caller identified himself.
‘To catch the train’
Thepolice managed to trace him to the railway station. Initially, he told them that the call was a prank by his friends.
However, upon being grilled, he admitted his real name and said that he intended to travel by train his native place.
As he had overslept and was about to miss the train, he made the call to delay it.
He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

This accident was the worst in the history of railways.
The accident in Amritsar Friday night in which at least 59 people were mowed down by a train during Dussehra celebrations was the worst due to trespassing on the tracks, railway officials said.

* June 4, 2010 — The Coimbatore—Mettupalayam special train collided with a mini-bus at an unmanned level-crossing at Idigarai near Coimbatore, killing 5.
* July 7, 2011 — A Mathura—Chhapra Express hit a bus at an unmanned level crossing in Thanagaon of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanshiram Nagar district, killing 38 and injuring 30.
* February 26, 2012 — The Trivandrum-Kozhikode Jan Shatabdi Express struck people who were standing on the track to watch fireworks, killing 3 and injuring 1.
* March 20, 2012 — A train collided with an overloaded taxi minivan at an unmanned railroad crossing in northern Uttar Pradesh, 296 km from Lucknow, killing 15.
* March 26, 2012 — A MEMU commuter train collided with a boulder-carrying truck at the Kannamangala gate on the outskirts of Bangalore, killing the pilot and driver.
* July 23, 2014 — A Nanded passenger train collided with a school bus at an unmanned level-crossing in Masaipet village of Medak district, killing 18.
* January 17, 2017: Two 15-year-old boys wanting to take selfies in front of an approaching train were killed when they were hit by another train running on an adjacent track. This happened near Akshardham station in Delhi.
* April 25, 2018-13 children killed after train rammed into school van at railway crossing in UP’s Kushinagar.
