A US radar base has become operational in the southeastern Turkish town of Sirnak near the border with Iraq, Press TV reports.

Turkey's Mynet news website reported on Tuesday that it has taken a year to build the radar base, which is totally under US control, according to the Press TV correspondent in Ankara.

The radar base is located on a hill in the Gurvil district of Sirnak, and its control center is supposedly based at the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey.

The radar base could be used to control US assassination drones and monitor the airspace of northern Iraq.

The X-band radar, which looks like a huge ball, can be seen sitting on top of the hill from a great distance.

The radar has an average range of 2,000 kilometers.

Last week, a high-ranking delegation from the US Defense Department visited Ankara and urged Turkish officials to allow Washington to use the Incirlik Air Base for intelligence purposes.

The US team, headed by Alexander Vershbow, the assistant US secretary of defense for international security affairs, met with Turkish Foreign Ministry and military officials on Wednesday.

The US officials reportedly offered to allow Turkey to jointly operate the US Predator drones if Ankara would grant permission to base the drones at the Turkish air base in Incirlik, which has been a major resupply hub for foreign soldiers in the US-led war in Iraq.

The US already had X band coverage of about 2/3 of Iran from the site in Israel. The Turkey site fills in the gaps. All that data coupled with sattelites can be fused together providing a very clear picture of whats going on in Iran.

.
i thougt it was Malatya the radar base was going to be stationed in... not Sirnak!

there will be one in Malatya but it seems this is different! another radar station!

So Turkey has finally sided with US. It is sad to see a Muslim country helping US to invade another Muslim country. Money is not everything you know. We have to answer to God some day.

.
which Muslim country or countries? the ones who sided with PKK, the ones who betrayed us whenever they had a chances, the ones who sided with armenia against Azerbaycan the list is long.........................? sorry no one can dare to question the service of Turks to islam

What are you talking about? Turkey is in American league. The services of Turks to Islam was during the era of Ottoman empire and since creation of Turkey all its services have been for NATO. Check the facts. As for PKK, you must ask your friends in Israel who are supporting them. But of course being friends with Israel is more important than discussing these facts. Azerbaijan is also another American puppet. So when you have something solid come here to discuss. The reality is very clear here. Turkey has sided with non-Muslim America which is bent on killing millions of Muslims. At least Iran is not siding with Greece to invade Turkey that is if we can even compare the tiny Greece with US here. See how despicable that is now? By the way how is support for Pan-Turkism and Turkish expansionism is going now adays? Is Iran offended by it or no?

. . .
"since creation of Turkey all its services have been for NATO" this sentence belongs to you so how you expect me to further any logical discussion with you?

in fact I did not read the rest of your post after this sentence, it tells enough about your level of knowledge

Truth hurts buddy. And it hurts bad. So no worry. This is just normal when one is confronted with being a slave of a master colluding with the master to kill others. Atleast Turkey should have thought about millions of Turkish speaking people in Iran, because they will be the ones who will be killed when Israel and US roll in guided by Turkish radars.

There are lots of fallacies above. Firstly Turkey is neither in American league, nor in Arab league, nor in Asian league or others. Turkey has relations with all sides. Because Turkey's leaders are pragmatists, and at the same time we are conservative, we value or roots more than many countries. A very good example is Turks in Europe.

If you go to Europe you will see lots of muslim nationalities like Arabs, Balkan, Pakistani etc. And if you look closely you can clearly see that Turks are the least assimiliated peoples (least drinkers/partiers, the people that are best organized with countless of organization, and the highest education level). So the thing about services to islam is entirely wrong. That is simply a wrong perseption of Turks.

We know our history very well, and our responsibilities, we carried the burden for centuries, and still Turkey is the closest to Islamic values if you ask me. Honest, hard-working, trustable. We may not have the same islamic institutions as other Arabic countries. But we have the people who are closest to islamic values, and has been for a very long time. When arabs lost their flag, we took it from the grounds and carried it. No offense but to know what Turk means, you have to visit central Anatolia. If not you will be easily deceived by the propogandist media.

Turkey is protecting it's interests a nuclear Iran is in no-ones interest, and I am a Shia who has many links with Iranian people. The Turkish people are a guarantee that nothing bad will happen.

Go back and read my post. I never said Turkish people. I firmly believe people every where whether in Turkey, Iraq or Iran are good generally. It is about government policies that we are talking here. We are not talking about general life of the people. We are talking about which country is letting an arrogant super power to get a foot holding in the region so that it can go on killing rampage just like it has been killing millions in the past ten years? Got it now? That is nothing to be proud of. True US might pay something to Turkey or give access to some technology, but is it worth it? I do not think so.

Dude Turkey is already sitting on top of over 100 nukes which US had delivered there in 1970's. So by your logic, Iran should also protect itself against a nuclear armed Turkey member of NATO and the American ally bent on war with Iran. Is that right?

Brother I have seen a lot of the analysis regarding Iran, and there is little likelihood of military action against them, all this radar site is for monitoring of ballistic missile launches.
