What happened to him ?

He was 85 years old but very active. He died while he was going to start the engine of his car. I was on duty in an 'active conflict zone' at that time and could not attend his Janaza. Very sad situation for me. Due to the same reason, I could not attend the Janaza of both of my grand parents either. They all lived 90+ years.

Hi,

My father passed away when he was 53 years old---heart attack and he was gone---.

So---life comes at you fast & goes by faster---zingggggggggg.

Just be grateful to Allah that your father passed away while on his two feet---.

It is a Blessing from Allah---.

We wish our old parents to live---because we don't understand " the pain of living " that they go thru---.

Getting old is no fun---. I had a very active life style for a civilian living in pakistan---. I used to jog 3-5 miles a day 3-4 days a week---. When I moved to the US---it climbed up to sometime 10 miles a day jog amongst other physical activity---.

It kept me and my heart fit---but just wore down the CV joints ( Knees )---the Ball joints ( ankles )---tie rod ends ( shoulder joints )---then there are the hemmorhoids ( no laughing matter ) and this is being very healthy and not being on any medication---.

And then there comes a time in our lives that we pray to Allah---" please take me while I am on my feet "---.

I want to tell you folks---" Please keep the dignity of your parents alive in their old age as you saw in their younger years "---.

Please do not prolong their lives by artificial means or by saying " I can't let you go "---. Sometimes we just want to go---.

I wrote it here before---my 76 years old uncle got a stroke---being a doctor---he self prescribed himself---the doctor told him be careful of your sugar intake---he took it as your sugar level is high---so he stopped taking sugar---.

Now he is in a comma due to this stroke---and his kids are spending a ton of money to keep him alive in that vegetative state---.

So---when I first visited him I was really shocked at his vegetative state---. I then asked his son---what are you trying to achieve here by getting the best doctors and spending 100's of thousand of ruppees on hospital and medicine---.

from his answer I realized that they thought that he will wake up and be his old self again walking talking like a regular person---.

I had a tough time to explain to him and his sister---that their father was basically gone---there is no coming back for a 76 years old man with a massive stroke---. Unless you want a cripple in your life---please allow him the dignity to pass away---. My uncle had a wonderful life---extremely handsome man---focus of ever gathering---.

Once my cousin understood that---they brought him home---took enough care of him and made it easy for him to travel to the next world---.

This is not an easy decision---but if possible---dying should have some dignity left to it---.

I have instructed my wife & Kids to not revive me if I get a stroke---just let me go to my maker---. I am happy for the life that Allah has blessed me with and when the time comes---let me go with a smile on your faces---.

By the way---in my family---we don't cry out loud at the death of our near dear ones---it is frowned upon---. They are just silent tears---.

Very true. Same feeling here.

I've seen the effect of losing a loved one, while I was close to my grand parents I was to young for such emotions, my real exposure came after my marriage. Few months into it my wife loses her uncle, then her father and her grandfather within a period of 6 months. While she comes from a large family 6 sisters, 2 brothers -- it doesn't fill the gap left in the heart at all. But it's changed me as a person as well, I'm more protective of her -- don't know how that change came about suddenly, I've never been that sort of individual even with my own brothers.

But as you mentioned they went while one their two feet's and were not a burden on anyone, which I consider is the best form of death when leaving this world behind. Even my father who's diabetic seen some of his friends go on ventilators and be in vegetative state, and wrote a will saying never put me on that machine and had us all brothers promise it as well, none could follow through so he left it up to me to pull the plug. I hope and pray that day never comes, even just mentioning it pains me.

For any individual, the mother is a house and the father is the brick, a foundation Allah (SWT) given to everyone, without it our foundation is gone.
