Pratibha Patil grabs 2,61,000 sq ft of land meant for soldiers and officers

What about experimenting with half baked socialist ideas for about 60 years making Indian economy a basket case?

Somehow I missed the biggest screw up. Thanks for pointing it out. This guy sat in London romanticizing about this mysterious concept at that time and enforced it and tied up India for 45 years with this failed theory.

I agree to this part. I always felt that this family bartered Anand Bhavan for India. Especially how Nehru screwed the Kashmir issue and lost the China war. And more recently this same topic - how a joke in the name of president was forced upon us. But on the Rajiv part I have a different view. I always felt he was one who had a vision when it came to dealing with Srilanka. If he was alive, at a minimum he would have ensured devolution of power and at maximum an autonomous region in the north. Now everything is in the air uncertain what Rajapakshe will do.
Sorry mate, The Indian Commisnore to SL Dixit is the one who told Rajiv that if you support LTTE as your mother has did, then some day TN will ask for freedom and because of that he needlessly panniced and held Prabakaran in Police Custody during his one of his regular visit to Chennai for two days and not to mention the change of Mardasi Rejiment Officers in the IPKF to Jat and Sikh rejiment officers and ordering the IPKF to go against the LTTE was a bad move that resulted out of poor understanding by Rajiv.

If he had doubts about the organization, then he should have seeked the knowledge of any of the then Tamil Leaders in TN to better understand the SL tamil issue, instead going by Mr Fool Dixit's words who is a north indian and does not have sence of why the Tamils revolted is utter stupidity

I read somewhere that he romanticized about socialist ideals during the great depression. He saw the chaos in Western countries during that era and saw the discipline in USSR and concluded that socialism is good. He did not had the sense to understand that every bit of news coming out of USSR is censored and in Soviet Union you cannot always trust what you see.

The separate Tamilnadu voices raised in 1940s and 50s has always been a bane for people of TN. I know Rajiv blundered into thinking that LTTE are 5000 boys and he brought Prabhakaran and other leaders to Bhutan forcing them to sign the treaty . I do understand he acted in a haste. Having stated that, Prabhakaran was an uncompromising pseudo-marxist idiot who got rid of all the other tamil leadership including the civil leadership and we see that void now. I feel killing Rajiv was the biggest blunder committed by him. The SL tamil movement lost support from many of TN people either out of guilt or fear. This is a fact. That is the reason combined with the selfish leaders like Karunanidhi that TN people's voices were not strong enough in the last stages of the SL civil war when the innocent people were killed.
Remember unless it is US, no other country can declare a territory independent country even in today's situation. Maybe Russia to a certain extent. India was weak diplomatically without the support of US and the USSR weaker than ever. And remember SL was holding the threat of having Tirukonamalai as an US base. So Rajiv can only do much which is again devolution of power or maximum autonomy. The fool Prabhakaran thought he can have separate country without realising this and was afraid once Rajiv returns he would interfere with his quest for the separate country and killed him.
The situation now is there is no one to support the SL tamils except the voices from TN but the leaders are still not there in TN to voice support. We have Karunanidhi who is a selfish idiot or Jaya who is not that much sensitive to Tamilian issues or on the other end we have the extreme idiological nut cases like Vaiko and Pala Nedumaran.

I agree. Prabhakaran was a good military leader but never a good politician. From 1987 to 2008 he was in a position of strength but never used that advantage as a trumph card and negotiate with GoSL for more powers to Tamil regions. He always used the peace talks as a recess where he could re arm and re group LTTE.

President Pratibha Patil took up to 11 relatives on 18 foreign trips in a year

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil travelling to Seychelles and South Africa with two grandchildren is hardly an exception. RTI records show that Patil has been accompanied by at least three to as many as 11 family members in 14 domestic trips and four foreign trips in the space of a year.

Between January 2009 and September 2010, Patil was accompanied on state visits by her husband Devisingh Shekhawat, son Rajendrasingh Shekhawat, daughter-in-law Manjari Shekhawat, daughter Jyoti Rathore, son-in-law Jayesh Rathore, grandchildren Surabhi Shekhawat, Prithvisingh Shekhawat, Dhruvesh Rathore, Divya Rathore besides other relatives and friends who were treated as presidential guests.

Details of travel accessed by activist S C Agrawal through RTI show that the President travelled to West Bengal ( Kolkata) and Odisha (Bhubaneswar, Konark and Puri) between December 6-10 , 2009 accompanied by her husband and three relatives. This was followed by a trip to Mumbai, Lakshadweep (Agatti, Kavaratti, Bangaram Islands) and Kerala (Kochi) between December 23-28 , 2009 where she was accompanied by 10 relatives, including her children, their spouses and grandchildren.

In her travel to countries like Poland, Spain, Russia, Tajikistan, UK, Cyprus and China between April 2009 and May 2010, the President was accompanied by at least two relatives, including her grandchildren, on each trip.

Incidentally, the disclosure came on a day when the government tried to downplay the controversy by saying family members accompanying the President was a 'normal diplomatic practice' .

"It's a normal diplomatic practice that visiting dignitaries occasionally take members of his/her family on visiting trips. Hospitality for such visiting dignitaries in such cases is usually provided by the host government . It is not abnormal," MEA spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said when asked if it was usual for the President to travel with her grandchildren.

Citing examples of visiting heads of states travelling with their family members , he said it included the recent visits by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, who was accompanied by his son, and former US President Bill Clinton, who travelled with his daughter Chelsea on a visit here.

However, the government's argument does not hold in Patil's case since she is a ceremonial head of the government rather than a political one.

The President's travel expenses of Rs 205 crore has raised many eyebrows. During her tenure, Patil has undertaken 12 foreign trips, covering 22 countries across four continents and spending 79 days abroad. She is currently on her 13th trip.
