GWADAR: The port city of Gwadar and its surrounding areas plunged into complete darkness in the early hours of Tuesday morning as suspected militants blew up a pylon of 132-kV supplying electricity to the area from the Makran grid station.

Official sources said that the militants had planted an explosive device with the power pylon of 132-kV between the Nilet and Karwat areas of Gwadar district and detonated it with a remote control at around 3am.

“The 132-kV pylon was completely destroyed in the blast that rocked the area,” the sources said.

However, engineers and other staff of the Quetta Electric Supply Company reached the blast site and started work for replacing the destroyed power pylon after security clearance. A heavy contingent of Frontier Corps personnel was deployed in the area after the incident.

The power supply was restored to Gwadar and its surrounding areas in the evening after replacement of the power pylon.

“The area remained without power supply for over 20 hours,” Abdu Ghaffar, a resident of Gwadar town, said.

Later, security forces launched a search operation in the area. It was the second subversive act in Gwadar during the past one week. A few days ago, a bridge was blown up on the Coastal Highway near Gwadar.

When are they starting putting electrical grid underground? (lines, cables, etc)

Sorry if I'm missing a point.

This won't serve the purpose. They can still dig it up and cut the supply

It is unfortunate but such incidents are really hard to be stopped once you have an active terrorism network in place. They will always succeed on an odd day in blowing up a school or a pylon or themselves in a market

cutting a power line is way too hard due to electric field can bee feel around 10-20 meters away from the line due to very high voltage and can be feel through ground thats why transmission lines are hang(only for transmission line with very high voltage)

no, overhead transmission is used because it is cheaper(almost 5-10 times). whether it is initial installation, or maintenance.

.
Video monitoring & movement detection system around pylons. Add to this automated remote controlled guns... Quite expensive solution but compared to the stakes of CPEC, I think it is peanut.

along side with them yeah its also a reason

Well since the idea of underground cables was a bust, why not use tactical UAV's to constantly patrol the power lines? Especially during night hours?

Facebook has developed a drone that can use solar energy to stay up 24+ hrs transmitting free wi-fi. I'm sure the same concept can be used on tactical UAV's to extend their surveillance hours.

Or, we can simply make them electric powered UAV's (and make cheap electricity). So the only cost(s) would be maintenance & the payrolls of those monitoring the UAV feeds. :)

No, ..........need Indian monitoring in Afghanistan.

Chabahar is an epic fail , blowing up pylons in Gwadar wont change anything

I'm not sure.... Refer to the bold part below

Should be replaced in 8 hours , certainly video survailence is need of hour for power installations in that region and attack Helicopter Gunships for fast response

I agree with user who stated all power lines should be installed underground
Makes sense , much harder to dig a power line which is burried underground

.
Indeed unfortunate. Insh'Allah may Gwadar reach ever new heights

.
Need drones for surveillance 24/7.

Need them armed to take out the terrorists.

.
Why so poor security? They should have a task force to annihilate anyone who plays with developments. No trials just kill on sight.
