Possible Russian S-400 sale to India and Pakistan's Response.

.
Actually,India also possess unspecified number of S-300s,but India never acknowledged it.S-300 along with S-400 can easily meet any kind of threat. And these are just long range SAMs.Real game changer is going to be Barak-8,which is cheap as well as extremely effective.Akash and Akash-2 will join those to secure Indian skies along with existing and developing SAM systems.Thats actually a massive arsenal.

YJ-12 ARM
Description: The People's Liberation Army (PLA) YJ-12 is a family of air-launched, long-range, highly supersonic missiles designed to take out large surface ships, radar sites and ground-based targets protected by sophisticated air defense systems such as the US Navy's AEGIS weapon system. Its development started in the late 1990s or early 2000s under the management of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). The missile's navigation system combines the Inertial navigation system (INS) with the Beidou satellite positioning system for the mid course with the terminal guidance carried out by an active radar seeker or an infrared imaging sensor. The propulsion system combines a solid fuel rocket booster and a liquid fuel ramjet to achieve Mach 3 or 4 top speed. The missile can be fitted with either a blast fragmentation or a penetration warhead depending on the mission profile. The YJ-12 is a heavyweight missile with two missiles carried by the new H-6K bomber and only one on the JH-7B attack aircraft. The YJ-12 missile leverages some technologies from the Soviet Kh-15 Mach 5 cruise missile of the 1980s. The PLA may put into service this new missile family in the 2015-2020 timeframe.
The YJ-12 ARM is an anti-radiation missile derived from the YJ-12 missile family and fitted with a passive radar seeker that covers the entire radiofrequency spectrum. The missile's complex navigation has been designed to hit a target even the radar has been shut down. This heavyweight missile is carried by either the H-6K bomber (two of them) and the JH-7B (only one). It can reach a maximum speed of Mach 4, a maximum range of 400 kilometers carrying a 400/500 kg warhead. The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) intends to use the YJ-12 anti-radar missile to take out all the Taiwanese radar sites in the event of an invasion of the island.

from wiki page for S-400, India is buying at least 6000 missiles for the S-400 complexes.......not sure how Pakistan or even China can counter that.

and it's pretty telling how superior the S-400 is since China is buying it as well.

Will Russia sell them 400 Km range missile

. .
Pakistan should buy A300 MLRS from China to counter S-400. When dozens of rockets will be fired towards its location (which can be determined using satellite imagery and ground intelligence), I believe it will not survive.

.
In todays world technology changes very fast. Catching up is even harder but we will have to do it if we are to survive.

Will Russia sell them 400 Km range missile

S-400 can easily shoot down YJ-12.

but India might as well go for a multilayered defense to protect the S-400. 10 regiments of S-350 Vityaz would be perfect.

Pakistan does not need to counter S-400 , all we have to do is to keep our Skies safe, and for that purpose we have SPADA, FM-90,HQ-2 ,HQ-16 and talks are on going for HQ-9 ...and as for Attacking the Sights of S-400 that can be done by various means ..
1- Air Strikes by Stand-off guided bombs , CM
2- High range MRLS with Guided Rockets .

S-400 Effect : Will Pakistan purchase Chinese S-300 Copy ?
Published October 16, 2016
SOURCE: Anand SG / FOR MY TAKE / IDRW.ORG
On the sidelines of BRICS summit in Goa, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signed a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to acquire an advanced air defence system from Moscow that is worth over $5bn. S-400 Triumph is a long-range air defence missile system that has the capability to destroy any incoming hostile aircraft or drone at ranges of up to 400km. S-400 is already dubbed by many Defence Analyst in the region has a ” Game Changer ” Air Defence systems for India . Hypothetically S-400 Radars which has a scan range of 600km can track each aircraft flying over Pakistani airspace with ease and with 400 km missile range , Pakistani Fighter jets can be destroyed right after takeoff from whichever base they operate from . On the other side of the border , Pakistani Military establishments already have red flagged this recent development and a high-level meeting between Pakistani and Chinese military officials held earlier this year have already discussed possibility of the sale of Long Range HQ-9 Air Defence systems to counter India’s recent purchase . HQ-9 Air Defence system is Chinese derivative of the Russian-made S-300 long-range SAM system which can engage aircraft, cruise missiles, and theatre ballistic missiles. Chinese variant of HQ-9 has a reported range of 200kms but their export variant FT-2000 is scaled down variant which has a reported range of only 125kms . In 2014 , Pakistan acquired HQ-16 surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems from China for $373 million .HQ-16 is a medium-range SAM system with a maximum intercept range of 40km which has scan radar range of 120kms. It is still not clear if China will supply HQ-9 with 200km range or scaled down export variant like it has done in past . Pakistan acquiring HQ-9 will allow them to target Indian fighter aircraft presumably from safer locations, unlike other Air Defence systems which need to be positioned near frontline to be effective due to their limited range. With India and Russia sealing the deal for S-400 Systems, it could be matter of few months before China and Pakistan to declare an agreement on the purchase of HQ-9 Air Defence systems . India, on the other hand, is also working on developing a longer ranged 150km Air Defence systems derivated from its Ballistic Missile Defence System and also has developed MR-SAM with Israel with reported range of 70-90kms , this explains a lot that expensive S-400 systems acquired by India might be limited to protect vital Cities,Government establishments and military installations .

As usual, Indians are again getting out of their limits and acting as hollow drum that sounds louder after signing a couple military deals with Russia. These deals might look significant in commercial terms but then after all these deals reflect a seller-buyer relationship. Indians can be happy as much as they would like to be but the reality remains that they just bought some Russian military hardware but not the Russian themselves. That was amply demonstrated by Russians when they chose to make it really a point by not cancelling military exercises with Pakistan despite Indian blackmailing that later turned into requests. These are commercial deals; nothing more, nothing less. These cannot be billed as strategic partnership in any sense of the term. In fact, there is no basis between the two countries to have strategic partnership. The two nations have divergent - rather opposing - interests. Russians would find it more useful to have an strategic alliance with Chinese (that they seem to have already forged one) rather than Indians. On the other hand, if Russians ultimately want to fulfill their dream of having access to the warm waters of Arabian Sea, the CPEC project would act as a all powerful magnet that Russians wouldn't be able to resist against. If that happens, and we don't see a reason why it wouldn't, then Russians would rather be in strategic partnership with Pakistan. In the meantime, Indians can pour tens of billions of dollars for Russian military hardware.

So for all our Indian members on this thread, brothers, I have a question for you. If you have such a state of the art air defence system already, which will be further complemented by S-400, how come a Pakistani drone was able to make this video with impunity and guide our artillery in real time?

you do not use a hammer to squish an ant
indian military is under strict orders in peace time not to shoot anything down

S400 is not a game changer and concept of no fly zone does not exist specially if its a proper military, there are dozens of cheap solutions already available

I do not know if five S-400 batteries is a game changer. with enough s-400 batteries PAF combat aircraft have to operate 100 km away from the LOC. it puts a significant dent on PAF ability to operate. PAF could ignore the S-400 and operate. they will lose some aircraft

.
US and Russia will keep selling there stuff if pak ind fight and get destroyed themselves then who they sell all the stuff

.
Why not? India like Russia is MTCR signatory, while China is not.

So If India asks for 40N6 missile, Russia will provide.
mtcr means and enforces that the signatories will enforce they dont export missiles or missile components will a range of 300km. india will need some kind of waiver

.
Good idea but will negate our air strikes capabilities against Indian airfields and if we fire cruise missile first then we lost the edge of surprise.
we will have the shock factor as india will heavily be relying on s400

We just bombed the crap out of indian army bases and india still considers out peace time.

Only if the PAF wasn't capable of taking out the indian radars. But unfortunately for india we are very much capable of taking out indian radars deep inside indian territory. We have plenty of measures already deployed to take out any indian radar system that poses any threat.
