ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday that the reason behind the pollution in Lahore was the ‘abysmal environmental conditions in India’.

In a statement on Twitter, Chaudhry said the Minister of Climate Change informed the cabinet that “Pollution in Lahore is caused by cross border field fires and abysmal environmental conditions in India.”

He stated that the level of pollution at Wagha is double than the Lahore city. The minister said the Narendra Modi government in India is failing in every aspect, adding that irresponsible governments are a curse.

Punjab Home Department has imposed a ban on the burning of crop residue, solid municipal waste, plastic and leather items for a period of three months across the province under Section 144 (6) CrPC, 1898.

The burning of crop residue, solid municipal waste, tyres, plastic, polythene bags, rubber and leather items create smog in the environment which is hazardous for human life.

This country needs to be nuked and wiped from the planet. Azaab dalla hua ha poora region main. Sala chupapower samjta hain apna app ko or tameez itni nahi ka farmers ko beta sakin how to deal with crops. The RRS thug knows only Pakistan bashing and indiots keep voting him back.

Motherfu****s!! First they killed our trees, then captured our pigeons and killed our crows! And now they are sending across pollution

So what are you doing? maybe should give some lecture to bharati Punjabis who visit temples in Pakistan about basic environmental risk, maybe ask their temples to preach about clean environment..

I don't buy the whole blaming India thing. Look at the wind maps, there's currently not a lot of wind. Also across the border, either they are not doing reporting accurately or their air seems to be cleaner in Amristar.

It's high time we focused on electrifying transport, cheap public transport and taking fossil fuel based cars off our roads.

We need to create new industries to support this. it is an opportunity not a challenge.

last year it was debated that this smog is not only the cause of burning crops across the border, situation here is also not very encouraging.

although it is seen that AQI is much better in Amritsar still one has to see wind direction, entering Lahore from where.

Regarding wind direction, I cant comment on where the winds are coming from to Lahore, it has been documented various times that a major cause of smog in Delhi around this time of the year is stubble burning in Punjab.
Given that, it doesn't seem possible that winds are moving to Lahore from Indian Punjab at this time of the year.

that article is from 2016. Since then, situation has improved much after punjab and haryana govt introduced assistance schemes for farmers to get rid of stubble. Its not perfect, but nothig on that scale anymore.

India has had rusty coal power stations just over the border which we have been blowing off smog for decades - we have only just opened one in Thar.

anybody can monitor wind direction, do not bother. only yesterday wind changes its direction several times during 6 hour time from 12 pm to 6 pm from west to north to east with variable speeds 10 km to 6 km.

the intensity of smog worsen in December hence it is just started. no doubt there is burning of stubble on both sides of the border even brick kiln is a major cause.

a city itself is also responsible for such extreme weather changes, Lahore is no exception with heavy traffic, reduction is green cover over the years, factories etc.

They did plan last year by curbing emissions from factories, brick kilns were closed who were not with fuel-efficient technology, and fining polluting vehicles and farmers burning rice stubble in the winter.

but it is not that a city if controls itself with certain measures, if situation is worse in large area in its surroundings, it is more prone to it than other areas.
