You are talking about denying a natural right of a major power to its sea lines.... Do you know what kind of courage it would require? USA and NATO support will be there only in case of countries like Iran and not against Russia.... We have seen what USA and NATO did in Crimea case..... Those articles and provisions in it will remain on paper only if Russia determines to open up the sea lanes.... Don't forget that Russia will first cut the gas and oil flowing in their pipelines to Turkey...
Ukraine isn't NATO.
Its not denying natural rights. Its to deny military ships from passage. This does not cover commercial ships. I'm not pro-Russian nor pro-US but we all have seen what happened in late 2015 when Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian combat aircraft. UK sent Eurofighters to Cyprus, US sent F-16s and F-15 to Incirlik AFB, if it wasn't for the government to apologize to make amends in Syria and look where that brought us: Russia directly targeting Turkish military personnel. We can not count on any ally, especially at this moment but the treaty is very clear which does not necessarily require formal declaration of war and US back on great power competition in its national defence strategy (As outlined by White House NSC report) eager to look ways to contain Russia not only in Syria but in elsewhere as well.
And if they cut oil pipelines, still they won't have access to Med via Black Sea, and the geographical scape of Turkish straits make it very cheap and easy to defend it. It will be a kill zone for any attempt to breach blockades.
To conclude, if there is anything the Europe and US will be eager to assist Turkey on even if the relations are not good nowadays, it is to contain Russia and keep Turkey away from Russia's orbit. In this instance, they will gain more than anyone including us. We saw that in the place incident on 2015, but after the coup the government followed a different path.
So like I said in the beginning it again boils down to the decision makers and their view of Russia. There will come a time when the government changes in Turkey and the war in Syria will end; there will be no use to stay close to Russia. People today talk about US and Turkey as two trains coming near a head-on collision. But the real collision to happen is with Russia.
As a self criticism, on the third Turkish operation in Syria, I could accept the fact that it was stopped due to US pressure. But in the case of Idlib, it is definitely not because of Russia but rather our in-competencies within the civilian administration.
Lets just hope that Turkey won't have to close the straits.
Well , They will support but the reality is that Turkey is the one who have to fight with Russia which mean your northern cities , your port and even Istanbul will get hit ....
No European country will dare to attack Russia directly to assist Turkey ...
Why you Turks become so naive !?
I don't like them neither but they did, check paragraph 1 on above quote.
Turkey will first have to say it is at war or threatened with imminent danger of war. With whom do you want to declare war ?
Please read the Article 21 again. Imminent danger of war occurs in peacetime for instances like this.
