Authorities say five people, including the gunman, are dead after a shooting at a Washington state apartment complex that appears to have been sparked by a dispute.

Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock says officers responded to a 9:30 p.m. emergency call in Federal Way of shots being fired.

Arriving police spotted two injured men on the ground in a parking lot and one of them reached for a gun as the officers moved in to assist them.

Schrock says officers then opened fire. The man was killed but it wasn't immediately clear if it was from police gunfire.

The other man one the ground and another man in the parking lot were found dead.

In a search of the complex, police found yet another man dead in one apartment and a slain woman in another.

A law enforcement source tells Q13 Fox it appears the shooting may have been a result of a fight that broke out in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Gunman shoots 4 in North Carolina, then is shot by police

A gunman shot four people in Greenville, North Carolina, before being shot by police, Mayor Allen Thomas told CNN.

Shortly before noon, the gunman approached and shot one person in a parking lot at the Kellum Law Firm and then three people in the parking lot of a Walmart, police said.

The man, armed with a shotgun, was walking through the Walmart parking lot when he disobeyed police orders to drop the weapon, police said. He fired the shotgun at police officers, who returned fired and shot him, police said.

Even after he was wounded, the gunman refused to comply with police commands to surrender, and officers used the cover of a vehicle to approach and arrest him, police said.

The victims were transported to a hospital. Their conditions and that of the gunman were not known.

The incident occurred near Landmark Street and Greenville Boulevard, police said.

Automatic weapons are under special licenses. I am a gun owner but do not have automatics.

Thanks for clarifying but remember the shooting incidence in school recently. The lady had automatic weapons and not just one gun. How did she got the license?

If you are referring to the Newtown shooting in Conn., no automatic weapons were involved. Many news organizations jumped the gun, so to speak, an assumed that because of the amount of deaths in such a short time, only an automatic weapon was possible. That was and is not true.

As for a special license to own, not carry, an automatic weapon, a person would have to submit to a more intensive background check and pay more for that license. A convicted felon will NOT be able to get a regular license, let alone for automatic weapons.

Please do some basic research before you post. These information are not secret.
