PN to acquire twin engine jet aircraft - Tender

There are several PIA ATR-42's written off because the ROI for their repair towards a return to commercial service is not viable.

It can potentially be repaired by PN and returned to join the two ATR-72's.

Just a wild thought.
Not sure if they'd be able to arm them, but a direct Fokker-like replacement for ISR, SAR and training perhaps?

PN wants a jet engine aircraft !!
Don't think his point was in response to this specific tender, just a related idea.

Perhaps, but I was just pointing out what we are all discussing regarding what PN is looking for.

. . . . .
intresting, i thought they would go for twin engine stealth j 31.

Usual mistake that everyone made when thread was created.

Not a fighter jet but a passenger jet which will be converted into naval surveillance jet.

aah, got it.
what about P3s ? those were pretty good aircrafts. Can't they be upgraded ? because turning a passenger jet to surveillance will need lots of OEMs interventions and up gradation

You have a point. Lets see where things go. However if an alternative from Chinese is available then there's a lot of probability PN will go for it.

you mean saab or turbo props?
Saab.

Saab.
yes they had even offered to give entire TOT for this aircraft and assembly plant like they had done for Safari.

.
Interesting why? Saab turbo prop's are one of the better performed and closer to a jet.
As per my understanding [which could go wrong] the aim is to achieve early detection of Indian SLBM capable submarine well beyond the extended EEZ of Pakistan which is ~650 KM, as of now Arihant class is capable to launch +1500 KM K-15 missile, therefore speed and on station time would be among the most important features in choice of Jet powered aircraft for anti-submarine role

any more detail, offer was made to which country ..... ?? I would like to read further about it so if possible plz post links or source related to this offer .... thnx in advance ...
