RAWALPINDI - Despite forced presence of hundreds of policemen and women police in plain clothes and officials of City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) in general and the men from Revenue department in particular, PML-N local leadership failed to make Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology gathering as a big show.
According to MNA Hanif Abbasi, the management placed some 15000 chairs for the audience, however, a source in PML-N and a person from catering service confirmed to TheNation that only 4,000 chairs have been rented out by PML-N management for todays inaugural ceremony of RIC-come-political session at Rawal Road. However, PML-N local leadership could only manage to fill 1,500 chairs while remaining chairs remained vacant, making the tall claims of N leaguers as hollow.
A police big wheel, seeking anonymity, revealed to TheNation that some 400 police men and half of the women police in civvies were also brought by N league in pindal to give impression that todays show remained successful. Some political observers also termed it a very poor show saying all the stalwarts of Rawalpindi PML-N were present in the function but could only manage to pull out 1500 people, including the men of the government, from their respective constituencies.
According to them the failure of the show also exposed the division of PML N party leaders as other MNAs and MPAs except Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate, in areas of which CM inaugurated three mega projects, were seen least bothered to make it a successful political gathering. They added that at one stage the CM, during his speech when he was bashing PPP for its corruption and other misdeeds, also realised the fact and changed his tone immediately seeing the audiences were least interested in this regard and leaving the pindal for their houses.
The CM quickly changed his tune and said that he has more to say on the follies of PPP government but let it for other any political gathering as today he had arrived in Rawalpindi just to inaugurate the development projects.
According to political observers, the only chance given to MNA Hanif Abbasi to deliver speech during the session by the management also created cracks among the other MNAs and local leadership of Nawaz League. The management should provide at least five minutes each to two MPAs to expresses their feeling with the audience.
This mistake can wide the gulf between the N leaguers in Rawalpindi Division which will be absolutely not good for Sharif brothers at the time when general elections are round the corner, the political observers stated.
An unemployed female, who was leaving the pindal during CM speech with distressed face, revealed to this scribe that Sheikh Anwar Secretary to MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi made her a phone call on her cell number asking to attend todays gathering along with her family members at RIC. She added that Sheikh Anwar also promised her that he would try his best to provide her a suitable job anywhere by making special request to Hanif Abbasi if she came with family members. Now I have been here for last two hours. Sheikh is not picking up his cellphonr. I know he called me here just to expand the gathering. I am going back to my home. I do not need any job, she said in chocked voice.
