KASUR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of a 1,223 megawatt power project here in Balloki on Tuesday.

The plant, which is set to start its generation from 2017, will provide cheaper electricity to public and also generate new job opportunities for the industrial and agricultural development.

Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said that it was for the first time in the country’s history that massive savings were being secured during the implementation of new power projects, which he added was the proof of his government’s sincerity and transparency in its working.

He said that due to transparent international bidding and tender process by the government, the foreign power companies showed great confidence and gave low cost estimates for setting up of new projects.

The premier said that a total of Rs110 billion have been saved in setting up just three new power projects. He added that Rs300 billion had been allocated for the power plants to start with.

PM Nawaz said Pakistan was on track of progress and development as the inflation rate was at the lowest level in the last 15 years. “If progress continues for the next couple of years like this then Pakistan would come out of its prevailing crises,” he added.

The Balloki Power Plant will work with the 61.63 per cent working capacity that is higher than existing power plants.

The cost of generation of per megawatts from the plant will be $469,000f, which is lower than other power plants.

A total amount of Rs38.6 billion will be saved in connection with the construction cost of the plant while an amount of Rs5.8 billion from fuel expenditures.

Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid among others attended the ceremony.

"Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had ordered preparation of 3600 megawatt gas-based projects five months ago, out of which work has already been started on two projects whereas the foundation stone of third project has also been laid at Balloki today.

{The projects are not falling under the purview of CPEC BUT the significance is the Projects are awarded jointly to famous Chinese & American Companies after the due process}

Of these 3 Projects, Punjab government is setting up one project with its own resources while federal government is setting up the remaining two.

Chinese company Harban International and American company General Electric had set up Guddu Power Plant at the rate of 8 lakh 34 thousand dollars per megawatt and now these companies are setting up gas-based projects at 4 lakh 69 thousand dollars per megawatt at Balloki. It is proof of the fact that these companies have complete confidence in the PM and they are well aware of this fact that under his leadership no politician or officer can demand any commission rather all matters are settled transparently and in a professional manner." - said the CM at the groundbreaking ceremony of 1223MW gas-based power project at Baloki earlier today.

Just like this:

Eight Good People

"Understandings" will never be a good substitute for proper legal cover and process.
Don't know what you mean to say..
Pressure from General Rahil Sharif makes Nawaz to head pakistan in right direction...
In other words there is enough evidence of Nawaz and shabaz involvement in corruption, even other political parties like zardari Mr.10 percent...:cuckoo:

It all depends who gets to define what is the "right" direction and on what legal authority. Think about that statement for a good long moment, Sir.
