Well it was 3 hours out approximately as per reported time of departure and return. Landed after 6 hours question was what was the problem that it came back to New York and not landed in Canada or some other Airport?
To answer your question about being close to Europe no as it was on a great circle course for Pakistan or Saudi and that course or route takes the plane further North instead of a regular Trans Atlantic route.
My guess is probably one of the turbo chargers might have gone bad thus the plane altitude had to be lowered and thus range is reduced or some other instrument gone bad? I hope no health issues?

4 hrs are enough to cross Atlantic don't know from NY to London is about 6to 7 hrs flight

No sir 6 hour and if you are flying for Pakistan or ME from New York the shortest route which is Great Circle takes on more northerly curved route not straight course. The return was after little over 3 hours.

From NYC to Toronto, it take around 1.75 hrs i.e. 1 hr and 45 min ..approx but if he is using the business jet like Gulfstream then it should take lesser time.. around 1 hr 20 min or even less.
