PM Imran Khan ‘puzzled at the cacophony' over Pakistan's exclusion from US climate conference

they did this on purpose.......

from the White House, Pakistan wasn’t invited because it is not in the 80% offenders list.
not being invited is good thing...

The Summit will reconvene the U.S.-led Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, which brings together 17 countries responsible for approximately 80 percent of global emissions and global GDP.

Well tbh he didn't complained but just showed the reality.
Also the title of the thread is misleading. It's "puzzled at the cacophony" over being left out and not puzzled at being left out.
The OP being neighbor from next door may have something to do with the misleading title. It's shame that majority fell for the trick without cross checking. Just check the article title on "The News" site that has been shared in the OP and see how the "at the cacophony" part in the title has been truncated to mislead. I even reported it but seems like Mods overlooked or didn't attend to it.

In short PM IK is saying that we are doing this for our self and don't need any validation, but the world can learn a thing or two from us and our experience.

The Pakistan PM used the word cacophony because he knows only the worst offenders were invited to the conference. If Pakistan wants to join the party then it has to drop into the bottom 17 worst offenders list.

The country that is the biggest polluter and carbon emitter in history, whose leadership recently rescinded on and withdrew from the Paris Climate Treaty, has the nerve to exclude us, one of the states most vulnerable states to climate change, from a conference on climate change.

Yes, it is that outrageous! We should raise a hue and cry.

It is just one country consulting with a few other countries, and not all countries vulnerable to climate change, as the basis for consultations and exchange of views, that is all.

Besides, PMIK is puzzled at the cacophony i.e. (the noise) being raised over it, not the lack of an invitation to the conference itself per se:

“I am puzzled at the cacophony over Pak not being invited to a climate change conference!” tweeted PM Khan.

If he is not upset, why are we? Besides, if China were holding such a meeting, I am sure that the list of invitees would look very different. After all, aren't most here happy that Pakistan has now chosen China as the next superpower of choice that will succeed with its help, just like USSR and USA in the past? Welcome to the future!

A little off: Is it me or is he really pissed at someone/something? Trade with India then no trade with india + article 370 roadblock. Check first responses to this and now yesterday this.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said he was “puzzled at the cacophony” over Pakistan's exclusion from US President Joe Biden’s climate change conference.
“I am puzzled at the cacophony over Pak not being invited to a climate change conference!” tweeted PM Khan.

The premier said he was puzzled as his government’s “environment policies are driven solely” by its commitment to the future generations of a clean and green Pakistan to mitigate the impact of climate change.

The PM said that due to this approach, his government has taken initiatives such as Green Pakistan, 10 billion-tree tsunami, nature-based solutions and cleaning up of Pakistan’s rivers.

“We have gained vast experience in 7 years, beg with KP, and our policies are being recognised and lauded. We are ready to help any state wanting to learn from our experience,” said PM Khan.

The PM said that if the international community is “serious about countering impact of climate change” they can look at the priorities he has laid out for the UN Climate Change Conference 2021 — COP26.

Biden invites 40 world leaders in climate change conference, excludes Imran Khan

Last month, US President Joe Biden invited 40 world leaders to the Leaders Summit on Climate he will host on April 22 and 23.

However, Pakistan was the most notable omission from the list of invitees. The virtual Leaders Summit will be live streamed for public viewing.

The Leaders Summit on Climate will underscore the urgency – and the economic benefits – of stronger climate action, international media reported. It will be a key milestone on the road to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) this November in Glasgow.

The summit will reconvene the US-led Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, which brings together 17 countries responsible for approximately 80 percent of global emissions and global GDP.

The president also invited the heads of other countries that are demonstrating strong climate leadership, are especially vulnerable to climate impacts, or are charting innovative pathways to a net-zero economy. A small number of business and civil society leaders will also participate in the Summit.

Leaders from India, Bangladesh, Antigua and Barbuda, Bhutan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jamaica, Kenya, Nigeria and Vietnam have been invited to participate in the summit, but not from Pakistan.

To the snub, Pakistan came out with a strong response asking for ‘inclusive cooperation’ to criticism that it had not been invited by Joe Biden to the Leaders Summit on Climate Change.

Defending its position on the importance that Pakistan gives to climate change, the Foreign Office pointed out that there was no doubt about the commitment to addressing climate change and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s leadership on this account is well accepted and appreciated around the world.

“Climate Change is one of the defining challenges of our times that can only be countered through inclusive, cooperative and forward-looking policies. Pakistan remains fully committed to play its due role in this fight,” said the FO.

It pointed out that The Leaders Summit on Climate Change hosted by President Biden reconvenes the US-led Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, which brings together leaders from countries responsible for approximately 80 percent of global emissions and GDP.

“The summit also includes representation from countries holding chairs of geographic regions and groups including least developed countries, small island developing states, and Climate Vulnerable Forum. Pakistan, despite being among the top 10 countries affected by Climate Change, is one of the lowest emitters - with less than 1 percent of the global emissions,” the Foreign Office added.

It also sent out a reminder that Pakistan is continuing to meaningfully contribute to shape the global climate change discourse, inter alia, as the vice president of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

“The government’s landmark initiatives like the Billion Tree Tsunami have won international acclaim, including from the World Economic Forum. Pakistan also co-chaired the multibillion-dollar Green Climate Fund, established to support climate actions in developing countries, last year,” added the Foreign Office.

Jo invite hoay woh bhi kia ukhar lain gy.

Khan seriously needs to muzzle himself a bit especially since he has an army of spokes person. Better way would have been to snub them back rather than being all pathetic on twitter. Someone seriously needs to delete Khans personal twitter account.

.
Agreed.

PM Khan is spot on in his judgement (agreed with him) but he should not have protested on Twitter [on his own either] - in my view. There are better and well-timed ways to protest. Opportunities could knock on the door of PM Khan at some point.

Biden administration ignoring Pakistan for Climate Change summit was insulting enough but PM Khan's protest on Twitter in relation is bordering cringe (unfortunately). He is good-hearted human nevertheless.

Pakistan could/can plan its own Climate Change Summit at some point. PM Khan shall consider this when feasible.

I don't see there being any issue in him using Twitter to make the statement. It needed to be made, irrespective of the platform chosen. Previous administrations would have simply ignored the snub and tried to downplay it in their domestic media, but IK purposefully chose a global platform to broadcast his views. That is to be respected and it his conveyed Pakistan's perspective on the US' choice.

Personally, I have a feeling that the US is deliberately excluding Pakistan because it is after all at the losing end to Pakistan in the AFG turf war.

Trying to make him invisible.

The trackrecord of IK is just beautiful, cancer hospital, university, enviornment work. He should have won a nobel peace prize by now. Name me another leader with his past?

Just trying to keep him hidden because he doesn't fit their narrative of corrupt or terrorist.

Good post. There's quite a few ways to look at this.
Pakistan's emissions are very low.

Incredible so many intelligent Pakistanis propagate the conspiracy against Pakistan theory on this thread. In reality, Pakistan's carbon emission is too low for her to be included.

Unfortunately the tweet is about different thing and it seems the news writer is not well versed with English. The meaning in plain English is why there is hue and cry over an environment meeting which it seems is not a big deal for the PM of Pakistan. It seems the news portal urgently needs a few writers who are well versed with English.
