$2 billion fifth generation Indian fighter program cleared: report

India has reportedly cleared a fifth generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA)to be developed by 2017 whose total cost is estimated at $2bn.

According to a news report in The Hindu newspaper, the Govt of India has released Rs. 100 crore($20 million) last month to the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), an Indian government controlled research body which has also developed the LCA Tejus fourth generation fighter.

"AMCA, when developed and produced, would probably be the first medium combat aircraft with 20 tonne weight in the world. Similar aircraft being developed by the United States and Russia are in the range of 30 to 35 tonnes," PS Subramanyam, ADA Director and Programme Director (Combat Aircraft), was quoted as saying in the news report.

The AMCA is to be a twin-engined 5th generation stealth multirole fighter, which will complement the HAL Tejas, the Sukhoi/HAL FGFA, the Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and other aircraft in the Indian Air Force.

:fans:With the experience gained in LCA,
Indian scientists should deliver on time this time
i ll b waiting for that moment when it testflies a prototype of AMCA successfully

i wish all the best for the indian team..

We have got the development base with LCA just like the earlier missiles. As you can see modern Indian missiles as per with the best and without any delay. AMCA will also use the technological capabilities of LCA, MKI and FGFA.

you are absolutely right sir.

we needed to establish/develope some basic facilities and technoilogies when we started LCA program. we have the establishments / tech now to use in AMCA program straight away.

wind tunnel facility
lighteing test facility
the software and lab to create digital mock-up of the aircraft
composite material tech
MFDs
FBW tech (if FBL is not developed in time - we can upgrade to FBL later when it is available)
and the list can go on....

For AMCA what engine do IAF prefer kaveri or foreign make?:what:

For AMCA we are really looking forward to KAVERI engine.
Kaveri is in the development stage right now.It recently done testing on IL-76.
So in next 5-6 years it will be ready.

By the way,:welcome: TO :pdf:

Such level details are all speculated now but not available officially, IRST is a must but dont know if we have a similar type like OLS so far, it will be all internal as per reports though.

FBL will not be very difficlut to develope as per some people. so lets wait and see, the spcs would be out in a year.

ISRT is very important, ISRT in Su-35 have 60+ km range..

No we havnt, so I said we dont know if we have similar one like Russians, but according to reports, AMCA will have all internal avionics unlike PAKFA which has OLS on its nose.

hmmm Most of the AMCA avionics is bound to get into FGFA... but OLS i guess we will inherit from FGFA into AMCA... not sure Russia will allow this..

As the VISION-2020 suggest India as a Nuclear power and IAF as a Nuclear force. India will have to acquire the capability of launching these weapons thus the delivery system for the Nuclear arsenals and to defend them. For this IAF would have a major role to play as via-air dropping is the easiest and the most common method used in wars.

Currently IAF is under development with first to acquire the force multipliers and setting up of a Nuclear Command And Post. If we take a look at the IAF's fleet of year 2020, the list would as follows-
