Russian turbofans are superior in every mechanical aspect you can think of. There's simply no counterpart except with American engines.Sure they would. The British are the little brothers of the Americans and I would bet money that the Americans have instructed them to restrict their military engine development to exclude engines for heavy fighters, in order for Americans to dominate here. Look at the history of British SLBMs. They cut their own ICBM program in deference to Americans after the US requested that they stop their development and in return the US would supply Britain with American made Trident ICBM missiles for British SLBMs. If that isn't giving up the crown jewels, I don't know what is.

If you're talking commercial engines, you have a point. If you're talking military engines, then mechanical performance is paramount above all else and Russian engines are second to only the Americans here. A good example would be comparing the Japanese Type 90 tank vs the German Leopard A4 tank. The Japanese tank is considered the world's most technologically advanced tank but the German Leopard A4 tank is regarded as either the best or 2nd best tank in the world because its mechanical properties are superior and would beat the Type 90.
