PLA Navy's new 052D DDG Launched today (Photos and discussion)

Chinese "Red Aegis" is superior to downgraded Japanese and South Korean Aegis

An indigenous Chinese Type 052C "Red Aegis" destroyer is superior to non-indigenous and watered-down Japanese and South Korean Aegis.

Chinese Type 052C/D DDG with AESA radar is superior to Japanese and South Korean DDGs, because America only exports DOWNGRADED weapon systems to other countries.

Japanese and South Korean Aegis (from the U.S.) are inferior copies. The U.S. downgrades the range, resolution, capability, power, etc.

Here is an example:

Japan’s Next Fighters: F-35 Wins The F-X Competition

"In the end, US politics denied export permission for downgraded export variants of the F-22, even as its production line was terminated."

That is incorrect, Some weapons systems that the US sells are downgraded and some aren't. Japan for one is using the same Aegis system that the US uses with fleet BMD capability

Japan’s Fleet BMD Upgrades

They are also getting CEC, which is a game changer when it comes to fleet defense

Presumably, the final upgrades will also include Cooperative Engagement Capability.

The structure of the radiating units underneath matters more than the cover themselves, which are meant to be transparent to radio waves anyway. (otherwise how would the radar work?) It only has to be transparent to the interested bands but I think those covers are pretty generic and broad-banded anyway.

The shape of the cover likely has to do with how the radar operates and to take into consideration not to distort the pulse sent and received through the cover. I would guess that for a spherical shaped cover the radar inside is likely conventional mechanically steered. Whereas PARs tend to be planar, so they can simply be mounted in an angled arrangement.

Stealth shaping of small protrusions on the mast is probably not so important compared to overall shaping of the hull, since it is a small part of the whole ship, and by stealth we're really only trying to make it low observable to a satisfactory extent given by requirements. You can see that ships like the type 054A and the Shivalik have things that you may say compromise stealth but the designers must have deem them below an acceptable threshhold.

Thanks for the info :D
