It is only 7500-8000 tons with 64-80 hot launch VLS units, it is still slightly smaller than the US Arleigh Burke class DDGs.

But when it comes with the capability of the indigenous naval technologies, it just puts China second after USA, since those Aegis DDGs from Japan and South Korea are technologically belong to USA.

Some insiders said its full-load displacement won't exceed 7000.
The 055 DDG will be 12000 ton.

I do not see it any different. Those chinese merely replace a radar cover and guns shell. See it's AESA radar cover is a square, a multimode ugly design.

This is a war machine or a beauty contest, too bad your country can't even manage to build one, but you have to import from USA.

Since the first gen Chinese Aegis from the Type 052C can cover a range of 400-500km, no wonder the second gen Chinese Aegis from the Type 052D will be even far more superior. It won't be surprised me if the second gen Chinese Aegis being comparable to the Aegis from the latest Arleigh Burke variant.

Once we have more powerful ship propulsion in the next few years, we will build the even larger 10,000+ tons DDGs.

Those Japanese/South Korean DDGs have more VLS units, but their watered-down Aegis will be very clumsy to simultaneously aim against an overloaded number of flying targets.

The propulsion system（QC185） is basically OK.
055 project will be exposed in the next year。

052C is already 7500 tons if im right? is the 052D's displacement supposed to be lesser
than that at 7000 tons? I though it would grow.

The max displacement for the Type 052C is supposed to be around 7000 tons, and i think it is max for the Type 052D to be no more than 8000 tons.

Since the tonnage is restricted by the ship propulsion system.

The Type 052D is close to 160 meters by length and 20 meters by beam, so 8000 tons fully loaded seems to be reasonable.

I also believe the Chinese domestic QC280 gas turbine is an improved variant of the Ukrainian GT25000, so it should be enough to power a 8000 tons DDG to ensure it can sail at the top speed over 30 knots, but it is not enough for a 10000 tons one for sure.

Can someone tell me what are the advantages/disadvantages of the shape of the radar mast and the
radar casing altogether? As the simple rule in radar physics, spherical objects reflect more radar waves than a cubical/angled object of the same mass, not taking into consideration the type of materials applied on the surface.

Then why is the 052c/d (as per the hand drawing on page 1) and British type-45 daring-class DDGs etc. going for spherical radar housing on top of the mast instead of an angled-surface casing
like those on P-15A?

Do you guys think that the type 052D is modified with limited ABM capabilities in mind?

Maybe the new PAR has something to do with this?
And if so, would they need to make mods to the existing missiles that type 052c carry?
