China is reportedly set to supply the Pakistani Air Force with one of the most capable new air to air munitions deployed by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force - the PL-15. The missile deploys an active electronically scanned array radar, and is designed with high manoeuvrability and an extended ‘no escape range’ allowing it to reliably strike even highly manoeuvrable enemy combat aircraft at very long ranges. The sizeable missile is four meters long, and its dual thrust rocket motors allow it to engage targets up to 150km away - with some estimates placing its range considerably longer at around 200km.

Should the Pakistani Air Force acquire the PL-15, it would be the first outside China to deploy it and one of very few in the world with access to munitions of such a standard. While it was reported previously that the Sino-Pakistani JF-17 Block 3 ‘4+ generation’ fighter was potentially set to be equipped with the missile, which would complement its powerful active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar upon entering service in the early 2020s, recent reports indicate that some of Pakistan’s older JF-17 Block 2 fighters could be modified to deploy the missiles. Reports of the potential transfer of the missiles come one week after engagements between the Indian and Pakistani Air Forces in late February 2019. Indian reports from these clashes indicate that its Air Force’s Elite Su-30MKI air superiority fighter was able to evade multiple attacks by Pakistani AIM-120C-5 air to air missiles - likely using its advanced electronic warfare systems and super manoeuvrability to do so.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force has taken delivery of 100 PL-15 Long-Range Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air-to-Air Missiles (AAMs) from China. The PL-15 can shoot down enemy aircraft at a distance of up to 300 km. The PL-15 was originally intended for PAF's future Block 3 JF-17s, but due tensions with India, will now be integrated on PAF's existing Block 2 JF-17s.

Does it mean some JFTs are now upgraded with AESA radar proposed by Chinese companies for JFT block-1/2.

.
It was delivered during Feb 26 or 27. Chinese delivered it.actually I thanked a Chinese member here for delivery.we knew it's bvr but not about pl-15. Fantastic news.it is clear that we received bvr but I don't know which bvr.
Yes these were deliverd back in December 2018 and already been deployed in JFT BLK 3, BLK 3 are not much in numbers just a sqdrn but all other sdrns also been equipped with that before that India pakistan conflict started

What are the odds when this telephone pole with an AESA chasing a su 30 jet with that big of an RCS?

The missile features an active electronically scanned array radar, which makes evasion difficult for the most agile of fighter jets. It is 4 meters long and incorporates a dual-thrust rocket motor. Upon launch, the missile reaches a speed of mach 4 and is capable of engaging targets at a distance of 150 km.

.
It could be but for Block-III. Current PAF arsenal does not house anyone of them as such. No official recognition neither any credible source come up with the same. As it is planned in future, many makes guesses in view of PAF shooting down 2 IAF planes. This news particularly in regard to active deployment is not correct.

Many things are happening

Fast tracking missiles is not out of the question

With ASEA and PL-15 PAF will be able to hit from a termendous range
Lungis are in pretty bad shape folks

.
Missile uses two way datalink, a dual mode active/ passive seeker. Very difficult to jam, and dual pulse rocket motor makes it travel at near hypersonic speed. The target data can be provided using datalink, and initially by the host radar until missile's own seeker takes over.

. .
In order to utilize PL15 to its fullest potential it is imperative that we upgrade our existing Thunder fleet with the air cooled AESA radar...

. .
Rumour has it that the later Block II are going to be given the AESA. I think its related to that.

Some time ago there was news that upgrade AESA radar built for JFT block-1/2 by China has been selected by PAF, so may be some birds are upgraded with AESA radar and now PL-15 are going to be added to give them proper punch.

. .
China wants to test their top lime weapon system against a real and common adversary.
