Pirates Hijack Pakistan Ship.

NAIROBI: The spokesman for the European Union's anti-piracy force says Somali pirates have hijacked a Pakistan-flagged fishing vessel.

Cmdr. John Harbour says the pirates seized the MV Shahbaig Tuesday. He says there are 29 crew on board and more details will be available later Wednesday.

Pirates are still holding hundreds of crew and a dozen vessels hostage in Somalia. Piracy has remained at high levels this year despite a growing number of international warships and extra safety precautions taken by merchant vessels.

Somalia does not have a coast guard or navy to stop the pirates because it has not had an effective central government for 18 years.

If these are International waters then Pakistan may well be restricted in any military operation as western Navies themselves are finding that they cannot breach international law and attack the pirates. Something which the Indians did manage to do once and sink the pirates mother ship.

I know from previous service I did that you just could not open fire on pirates or terrorists unless they fired on you first or appeared that they would fire on you. As part of the UN this made things very very difficult as any shooting would utlimately land you in an International Court open to accusation and trial.

Crappy Laws to be honest.....send in the SSG and end this charade
