Pre-Indonesian Military Forces under Japanese Influence; Recruitment Posters 1939-1945

When the Imperial Navy of Japan arrived in South East Asia, the Republican army (which later became Indonesian army) declared alliance with Japan in order to get rid of the Loyalist Army (known as KNIL, Indo-Netherland's colonial army). The Imperial Japanese Navy quickly established two organic units for the Republicans; Heiho, the Republican navy and Kyōdo Bōei Giyûgun, the Republican army or Pembela Tanah Air (Motherland's Saviors).
