By Web DeskPublished: November 18, 2012
KARACHI: An airplane en route to London via Karachi was told to land shortly after take-off when its second engine caught fire, Express News reported on Sunday.
The PIA flight PK 787, took off at 11:45am from Karachi but shortly after, the pilot contacted the control tower and informed them of a fire in the aircrafts second engine.
The control tower directed the pilot to land the plane after taking a few rounds in the air to lower the quantity of fuel the plane contains.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and its vigilance, fire fighting and rescue teams were called to the scene.
The plane landed safely but has been deemed unfit for the journey to London and passengers will be shifted to another aircraft shortly.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
