Philippine elections could set ties with China back on track

Well she turn down here appointment to ICJ and yes she ran for President in 90s but did not win i like her too but i don't like her stand on the west Philippines sea as for binay screw him and his corrupt family he's and his family is step backward and disaster for the Philippines and as for Roxas again he down graded from president aquino but he's in the same good president type place a president aquino we need a great president he would be ideally president in different situation but not our current state we need a better than a good president.

1. Ah, i didn't know she turned down her appointment to the ICJ, i do remembering reading about her considering the ascendancy back in 2011-2012 -- as she mentioned it to a group of Japanese reporters during the annual Filipino Nikkei Jin Seminar held in Ateneo.

2. Yes, Binay would be a poor decision. The man is worse than Estrada and represents family perjury-style politics that defines the Metro Manila paradigm. In other words 'vote buying' to the extreme. What is also interesting is that back in the 1990s Binay had an anti-Chinese sentiment , but now recently his advocates claim he is 'pro-China', lol. Look at Binay's face, tell me if you think he seems 'pro China' to you. :)

Aquino has to live up to the expectations of Filipino Nationalism, which his countrymen expect him to exercise as the Commander in Chief of their Republic. If he takes up a softer stance on China in the Scarborough Shoal issue he would have been labeled an 'unpatriotic' Filipino and would have questioned his loyalties to the Filipno Constitution and Republic and right wing Filipino pundits would have claimed his Chinese ancestry as suspect.

You have to know that Chinese Huaren in the Philippines have had experienced racial discrimination throughout history there since the Spanish era. From a persecuted minority to one of the most successful minority group and most influential now in their country. So you have to probably understand his 'excessive' national policies in terms of territorial and geopolitical machinations.

Other than that, you have to appreciate his diplomatic calibre. From how he has handled the rebels in the south in reaching a historical peace accord in Mindanao, the same year he finds and writes an agreement with Taiwan on a historical Taiwanese-Filipino Fisheries Accord , which now effectively diffuses maritime disputes between Taipei and Manila and to an extent Beijing.

On one hand he is juggling national image and defense goals by inviting the US military to help patrol their waters, which is heavily unprotected due to the limitation of the Philippine defense spending. And on the other hand he takes advantage of his Chinese cadres by facilitating direct flights from Beijing to Manila, Shanghai to Manila, Shanghai to Cebu, Shanghai to Davao through Cebu Pacific Flights (owned by John Gokongwei; a Chinese-Filipino industrial barron and billionaire). He has increased diplomatic rapproachment with the Chinese through cultural exchanges, local government exchanges, and through greater trade and business ventures. His right arm in coaxing China to cooperation on more developmentalist-inclined areas has been the Chinese-Filipino Chamber of Commerce, which he is a member of and a proud supporter.

In fact Aquino even communicated with Taiwanese representatives in Hakka , btw. Not in English. That says much about the man.

You would be surprised to know that there are Filipino politicians in the Philippines that see Aquino as being too soft on the Chinese and being a Chinese sympathizer. Not everything is very black and white, my friend.

Reality is different.

And by the way, the most pro-China possible candidate would be Mar Roxas. Binay is from the same cadre as Estrada, who actually was in support of restrictive policies back in the 1990s. Binay is an opportunist individual. Roxas has more principle. And by principle, Aquino has plenty of that compared with his other peers.

He is the same man that called into question and led the sacking of the Chief Justice of the Phlippine Supreme Court for corruption.

THAT is what Aquino is about.

He's too corrupt. Having him in power will be like having Estrada again back as president.

Roxas is preferable. Or Duterte.

Man most of what you has merits dude that's what i like about you but then again you been here so unlike these chinese imperial clowns who are arrogant as hell and mostly ignorant on the outside of china but going back on topic i think president aquino is less of pragmatist than what you think well he just follows what he originally planed and goes through with it reagless but i never view him as pro chinese he just follow the normal protocol avoid physical conflict and use what ever diplomatic options we have well that was assessment anyway sorry man i just had to disagree with some of your assessments in your post

.
wow really do tell what the relations of defense treaty and humanitarian assistance to loyalty and crime thats a stupid thing to say typical of you imperialist chinese
So you? Imperial US  You bent your back for a useless imperial that gives nothing back to Philippine. You are the real traitor of Philippine.

See a face you can not trust anyhow i think she did because before she decided to run for the Presidential race anyway since she was sick with cancer it would be bad choice to take the appointment that was also her reason not to run but she underwent therapy and i guess she decided to change her mind but if she win she can't take her post maybe if she loses the race as back up or continue her term in the senate

He he he, you can't blame them, many of our Chinese flagged members here have never been to the Philippines and only a few of them have ever been outside China. What they know about the Philippines is through the forum or through nationalist postings, which is not very objective.

As a Japanese national who has lived in Cebu for a while, and have working colleagues in the country, I know first hand the society is like in the Philippines. And from my observation , Chinese influence in Filipino society and food is so evident. I really envy the Chinese presence in the Philippines since there are so many Chinese in your country or how China as a cultural progenitor has influenced some lifestyles in the Philippines.

If only some ultranational Chinese members here are given first hand account on the Philippines and how Chinese Filipinos are successful and how there are positive traits relegated to Chinese -- then they would be proud and more appreciative.

The Chinese 'imprint' in the Philippines is deep. If only China can capitalize on that historical bond and cultural affiliation, then they would find the Philippines as one of their most proactive partners. Instead of being geopolitical opponents.

That's just my observation.

Interesting, i didn't know about that. Well, then, I pray for a speedy recovery for Madam Senator Defensor. An inspiring and spirited fighter, she is !!

Typical no facts just ignorance and arrogance typical chinese ignorance Just to prove you wrong unlike china America was the first responders to help us in all of Humanitarian needs plus the military allocated funds to other projects since america has donated items to us far from useless unlike china who did not help at all and only donated money after the whole world criticizing china for being arrogant jerk and unlike the US chinese are stealing jobs and resources in the Philippines its proven facts here so ya US is far more better than china because the American maybe Jerks but we need them there here unlike some other country who say something and does the opposite and steals from you.

Hmm, i heard from some of my friends who work in Makati that the son of Binay was also involved in graft scandal ? Something about overusing his powers as city mayor of Makati. That doesn't surprise me since it is like a family business there since Binay , prior to becoming VP in the Philippines, was also the mayor of Makati.

I agree with you about Marcos; the man was corrupt. Tho i admire his authoritarian leadership early on, later he became too unpredictable.

I never thought about Miriam Santiago-Defensor. Tho i do remember that she ran for president back in the early 90s and lost by a narrow margin. She seems like a very vocal and principle-strong individual since she was involved in sacking of the PH supreme court justice due to corruption charges. And if my memory serves me right she is also a judge in the ICJ.

Are you based in Manila now, my friend?

yes i am in manila i stay here how about you pare
the whole family is corrupt and the daughter is so dump
PH deserved better President
miriam is old now and she is fighting cancer and also the thing i dont like she team up with marcos bong i dont like

Unfortunately that is what will happen. I think that Manila has to reach out to Beijing.
