An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta acquitted on Monday former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the case of the murder of Jamhoori Watan Party leader Nawab Akbar Bugti who was killed in a military operation in 2006.

The court also acquitted two others, former federal home minister Aftab Khan Sherpao, former provincial home minister Shoaib Nosherwani.

Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed along with his 26 comrades during an operation in the mountains of Dera Bugti in August, 2006. Musharraf, who was president at the time, had directed the military operation.

Musharraf had constituted a federal negotiation team headed by Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and the late Makhdoom Amin Faheem in March 2005 that held numerous meetings with Nawab Bugti.

In January 2015, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) indicted Musharraf in the case of the murder of Jamhoori Watan Party leader. Two other accused – former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and Balochistan’s former home minister Shoaib Ahmed Nausherwani – were also indicted.

ATC acquits Pervez Musharraf in Akbar Bugti murder case
SYED ALI SHAH — UPDATED 39 MINUTES AGO
QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta on Monday acquitted former president General Pervez Musharraf in a case pertaining to the alleged murder of former Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

The court also acquitted former provincial home minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief and member of National Assembly Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.

After the announcement of the decision by ATC-1 Judge Jan Muhammad Gohar, the lawyer representing Jamil Bugti, Sohail Rajput, announced his decision to challenge the judgment of the court.

"We are not satisfied with this judgement and we will challenge it," Rajput told reporters outside court.

Sherpao expressed satisfaction over the judgment and said justice was upheld by the court.

The ATC court, noticing the absence of other co-accused, issued permanent arrest warrants for former premier Shaukat Aziz, former governor of Balochistan Owais Ahmed Ghani and former DCO Dera Bugti Samad Lasi for not appearing before the court despite repeated notices pertaining to Bugti murder case.

The court also rejected the request by Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, eldest son of late Nawab Akbar Bugti, to order exhumation of the body of his father to confirm that the body buried in Dera Bugti was that of his father.

In a separate application, Nawabzada Bugti had requested the court to summon the members of a parliamentary committee who had met Akbar Bugti following the violence in Dera Bugti in March 2005 in which dozens were killed.

Jamil Akbar Bugti, had earlier nominated Gen Musharraf, Aziz, Ghani, former chief minister the late Jam Mohammad Yousuf, former interior minister Aftab Sherpao, former home minister Mir Mohammad Shoaib Nausherwani and Mr Lasi in the FIR registered at the Dera Bugti police station.

An FIR was registered under sections 302 and 304 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Musharraf and others in 2009 for their alleged involvement in Bugti’s murder.

Former president Pervez Musharraf was indicted in the case in January 2015. He had been staying with his daughter in Karachi where he travelled for tests at a navy-run hospital in April last year and the indictment took place in his absence.

Musharraf is also on bail in other major cases linked to his time in power including the 2007 assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Lal Masjid, judges detention case.

Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed in an operation in Balochistan's rugged mountains of Taratani in Kohlu district on August 26, 2006.

Bugti had led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources.

The death of the Baloch chieftain had sparked angry protests in parts of the country.

Majority of the cases would have been thrown out during the first hearing if the sitting CJ was anyone else but the vindictive megalomaniac Iftekhar Chaudhry. For example, when someone challenges State security forces with firearms as happened in Akbar Bugti’s case and in the case of Lal Masjid; what is the head of the State supposed to do? Just to twiddle his thumbs or order the threat to be eliminated? Nawaz Sharif is also well-known for his vindictive personality, thus it would be a long time before Musharraf is cleared of most of the case.

Musharraf is truly guilty of only one crime that is, breaking the constitution in a military coup. All other cases are just to make his life miserable.

Good victory for Ex-President Gen. (Retd.) Pervaiz Musharraf.

I believe that in view 2 worst things ever happened to Pakistan were Zulfiqar Bhutto & Iftikhar Chaudhry. Why? Because:

ZAB instigated Ayub Khan for war with India in 1965 when we were cruising along for a prosperous future & we could have been a Korea or Taiwan now but the war broke our economy. May be thats why Ayub fired ZAB in 1966 realizing his mistake.

Then in 1970-71 ZAB after gaining slim majority in West Pakistan he was claiming the crown for the whole country whereas Mujeeb had gained overall majority seats & it does not matter that it was only from East Pakistan. He should have been given power while the boys could have pulled the strings from behind just like they do now.

But due to ZAB the country broke into two.

After that he broke all the industrial base & destroyed whatever was left of Pakistan.

Then again in 1977 elections he cheated & even I saw that happening in our polling station.

Then Zia ul Haq happened & due to him we have now KKs, drugs, islamists, terrorists, etc. Since then nothing has progressed except Islam as a b usiness.

2nd worst person Iftikhar Chaudhry:
Early in 2007 when we were again cruising along to an economic success but he blocked Musharraf from getting elected 2nd time. He's a hypocrite & did not hesitated from taking oath under PCO in 1999 & giving him 3 years to fix the country which he did & all figures were showing well even before 9/11.

Had he not interfered then BB would have been alive & Zardari would not have happened & we would not have lost a decade.

Now this bugger has formed a party but he will not get votes from anyone except from his family.
