Persian or Arabian Gulf? Iran, Saudi fight over name

Why don't you stop worrying about what you think I want, and stick with what I'm telling you? We're not turkies here. We have a brain. We can think. We can reason our way out of dilemmas. If simplistic, general arguments do the trick for you, then by all means.... knock yourself out. But unreasoned thinking is for simpletons. And from what I've been able to gather, simpletons don't have very pleasant lives. Hate Iran, love Iran... that's your opinion. But I think we should still be able to coherently explain ourselves....
All i sense from your posts is that you people literally hate everyone be it Turkish, Arabs or the western world. And what you are trying to do is justify your hatred. I have a neutral perspective on this issue yet you want me to see things from your angle only which is absolutely absurd. A little flexibility goes a long way and self pride never helps accomplish anything.

The pathetic Persians use the Arabic word "khaleej خليج" to name the gulf. They name it "Khaleej Fars خليج فارس". They probably don't know that the word "khaleej خليج" is a pure Arab tazi word. They should go back and find the lost word for a "gulf" in the ancient forms of Persian before the invasion of their best friend "Omar". They also do know, damn well, that the word "Fars" فارس is an Arabized pronunciation of the original word "Parsپارس".

So basically the name "Khaleej Fars خليج فارس" is half Arabized already.

If you remove Iranian words from the Quran (changing Quran), maybe we´ll follow your proposal.

Did it hurt you that much fire whorshiper? Tell your nation to quit worshipping Ali and his decendants. Tell them to quit standing in the waiting line for that lost tazi malakh-khor who will take it back to greatness.
Does a saudi lizard hurt humans?
Only by suicide bombing.

Ya Ali, kill the Daesh wahabis.

We don't care about Arab influences. Majority of Iranians are not anti-Arab. You will find a vocal few, but as a whole, it does not really bother us that we have Arab influences in our language. We also use Arab names. At the same time, we have Russian influences ("Samovar" is a russian word), we have French influences (some say "merci" instead of "mamnun" or "tashakor"), we have english influences, we also have Indian influences. We are a 3000 year nation, we have not been living in an island, separated from the world.

We are not afraid of some influences.

Iranian issue with the naming is that certain Arab countries are trying to change the name just because they have some kind of weird anti-Iranian fetish. If the name was "Monkey Gulf" or "Camel Gulf" or whatever, we would use that name

Is this so complicated for you to understand? If we were so afraid of Arabic, the first thing we would do is STOP TEACHING ARABIC IN OUR SCHOOLS.

You guys might hate all Iranian farsi majoos. We don't hate all Arabs. Sorry.

Let s see Shiite Arabs how they want to name it...Arab or Persian gulf??
Im really wondering now...:-)

What really bothers me about this is that certain mentalities that exists in our world today is so short-sighted that they are willing to destroy history just for short term gains. The name is at least 2500 years old. Keeping it as it is, if nothing else, is an interesting respect to both history & preserving it. Nations sometimes burn books for short term political interests and the information is lost forever. When Alexander burned Persepolis, so much history was lost, due to all the books that were destroyed.

Same thing is happening today. Ancient monuments are being blown apart because that group is thinking only in Present Terms. They are not thinking about tomorrow and 50 and 100 years from now.

Keeping the name as it is, won't suddenly make Iran super powerful. Is USA weaker because of "Gulf of Mexico"? Did the name "Gulf of Aden" make Yemen the most powerful country in the region?

Look at this list of seas,

The Persian Gulf is the ONLY one with a naming dispute controversy (over a name that has been more or less the same for 2 thousand years). I've said it before & I will say it again, I wish Iran was located in Sub-saharan African. We'd have more mature neighbors there.

By the way, Turks also don't use the name Persian Gulf. They use Basra Gulf - Basra Körfezi

So basically the vast majority of the countries that are close the Arabian Gulf don't use the name Persian Gulf. The Turkish name of Basra Gulf goes back to the Ottomans time, and was kept as it is during Ataturk era until today.

@TurAr @Sinan @xenon54 - did I get that right?

Yeap, we use the biggest city's / town's name that's inside the gulf for naming it, Edremit Gulf, Mersin Gulf, İzmit Gulf, etc....

Ask Iraqis....they suck up to Iran...so, no need to wonder. :)

Next USA says why is it called the gulf of mexico when it encompasses USA as well. Who cares!!

This stands as beyond stupid in this stupid rivalry between two nations and this rivalry is tearing the Muslim world apart while our enemies and rivals stand strong and united.

So what if its called the Persian gulf. Its a non issue.

Very nice finding. You're good.
