And I eagerly await the actual mics on Perseverance.

That verification needs boots on the ground. A robotic rover cannot do that.

BTW I am currently reading 'Mars' by Ben Bova and I have passed the point where the hero, Jamie Waterman, espied a dead Martian village carved into a mountain.

Correct. The air pressure sensor could only detect low frequency vibrations from the wind so they had to speed the recording up to bring it in the audible range.

IMHO, there isn't much to it. If nature can create these on earth at such a massive scale then a small pyramid looking rock on mars shouldn't be a big deal.

They said the skycrane can fly to a pinpoint location this time using high def stored maps to figure out where to go. They always have to do the crazy stuff just to add another level of complexity.

Skycrane able to place Perserverance in a blue "flat area" in the midst of a rocky area of red "no-land" zones.

There are over 2 dozen cameras on board that thing, with a good chunk of them operative during the descent. In days to come we will mostly likely see the landing itself from these cameras.
