What's new

Perpetually abroad, Modi loses sight of the grassroots mauled by demonetization

Dharmic people (term used by you) is different than Dharmic religion. Only the extreme fundamentalist would argue that religion is the ONLY identity a human has.

It would be onerous to put the burden of proof on you to explain how religious mumbo-jumbo is supposed to protect a nation in the 21st century. So let me just articulate your views so as to remove the haze that surrounds them - you believe that the way forward for any country is to embrace its majoritarian religious identity as the means to protect its "interests". I assume this religious identity will magically confer upon us the education, technology and institutions that other countries need to safeguard their nations. That is entirely plausible, considering the magical truth claims that religion makes.

People forgetting about religion is the only hope for preventing inevitable strife. The demographics of Muslim population are such that before socio-economic progress and education kick in, their numbers would have already grown to an extent that the majority status of Hinduism will be only on paper. It is inevitable. So it would be best if identities were handled in a less adversarial manner.

Muslims cannot reproduce forever. As population increases the competition for resources will intensify. Hindus will unify to fight Muslims. It did happen in the past because lack of political awareness. If Indian populace of 2016 was political aware to the same degree in 1946 they would have expelled all Indian Muslims or waged a war to destroy Pakistan in 1947. I expect the political awareness to increase. Having voted for the Muslim League in 1946 Indian Muslims have a big target on them.

The only real hope is that India faces an existential crisis like a threat from hyper powerful China or climate change. People decide to unify to meet the threat

That ship has already set sail.

Hindu consolidation has already happened as evidenced by Voting Modi into power.

We already face crisis like a powerful China AND climate change and THEN a Few Others like Terrorism, Cultural invasion, Religious invasion funded by foreign nations (both christian and Muslim), denial of economic opportunity, Unfair trade practices etc.

How many more Crisis do you wish upon India so that your perverse Idea of "secularism" can survive ? Bache ki jaan leyega kya Mr. secular.

.
SouthAsianMoniter ? Another 10pisa site.

BJP rules 16/29 indian states , they control 70% of the Indian population. Naturally they will have the biggest share of farmer sucide rate .

Idiotic thread.

No, but its a good start.

Far better than doing nothing in the name of "secularism".

Do you have the perspective ?

See the rise in farmer suicide AFTER CONgress came to power in karnataka ?

Or are you more worried about what pakistani's think ?

Who is ruling India?
Congress?

Who is ruling Karnataka ? CONgress.

increase in 100 suicides ...
can the suicides be attributed to government policies or bad weather or low prices for agricultural products ?

Yes, mindless leftist propaganda. For pointing out -

1) demonetization was a disaster that wiped out sections if the agricultural community by disrupting sale of kharif crop

2) none of the purported benefits of demonetization have accrued so far as claimed. They have not even released the final tally of how much money was deposited in the banks

3) Make in India, Digital India, Skill India, Smart City India, Swachch Bharat India, and all these Jumlas have fetched nothing so far and are total failures

4) FDI numbers are dodgy as institutional investment in equity and unrealized pledges are lumped together with non-existent Greenfield projects

5) GDP numbers are dodgy, and even the RBI is steadily losing credibility

6) whatever growth has taken place is jobless in nature, in fact employment growth is lower than under previous government

7) as for the socio-political climate...well I will not even go into that

@baajey @The_Showstopper @takeiteasy

Let us spread more mindless propaganda to sully our lovely ruling party!!!
and the earth shattering defeat of BJP in UP and UK few months past demonetisation proves that people are so angry about it. recent example Delhi MCD election result. Mark my word BJP is doomed.

So suddenly the weather went bad after the CONgress came to power ? :cheesy:

Have you heard of MSP ?

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/curr...rd-1-002-farmers-ended-lives-this-fiscal.html

Karnataka breaks record! 1,002 farmers ended lives this fiscal

MSP - minimum support price ???

If Congress government eliminated MSP more power to them. How come only 300 farmers committed suicide ?? There are tens of thousands of farmers who are doing fine.

Can you read your link ?
Farmers were in dire straits due to drought in the last two and a half years.
Do you know what a drought is ?

LOL..... you want to eliminate MSP but have no problem giving 50% salary hike to govt. officials

This news is from 2015. CONgress rule in karnataka is from 2013. Do the maths.

What did they do to support the farmer during Drought ? What did the do to reduce the debt burden of the farmer during drought ?

Do you know what good governance is ?

Don't you think that the eventual demographic shift, that you are alluding to, wouldn't even leave you with a choice to debate - since by then you will be forced to 'believe' and failure to do so will lead to a lot of misery and a painful death? Think again if you think we will have another debate on secularism when that 'shift' does happen! And think again if you think you (God forbid, as an atheist) can co-exist peacefully with marauding herds of 'believers'.

For me, it is a case of sticking with your own nonsense, seeking safety in numbers and as a bulwark against the 'believers' OR being force-fed the imported, far worse, perverted 'believing' nonsense.

I am, what I call, a reluctant Hindu. Not because I am religious, but because I believe the alternative is far far worse. Isn't that worth fighting for?

My friend, you have hit upon the nerve of the issue. Very well articulated, I must say. I have an issue with all bad ideas, be they religious or otherwise. It's not that I disagree with your prognosis that the "believer" is as much a danger to me or my principles as anyone else. But I don't see as to how that can be resolved by setting up a conflict. I would rather look at a long-term picture, and bide my time to ensure that things do not become violent immediately.

In the long term, abandoning bad ideas is the only solution. How that is to happen can be discussed, but I am afraid an alternative involving retention of bad ideas will make conflict inevitable. I agree that as of now, the scenario that I present seems far-fetched. And yet, look around you. What is it all building up to? All the ingredients of civil war are being assembled. Study the history of Lebanon. We cannot let that be repeated here.

I do hope you realize that the "fight" you are referring to is civil war. I would rather not have such a fight. The only way to achieve that would be if we fight for our right to question and reject bad ideas on both sides - especially the ones that insist that religious differences "must" be resolved.

and the earth shattering defeat of BJP in UP and UK few months past demonetisation proves that people are so angry about it. recent example Delhi MCD election result. Mark my word BJP is doomed.

Aha! Another end-justifies-means munchkin has arrived. So your favourite party is allowed to wreck the economy, polarize the public and do any nonsense it pleases, as long as it wins elections, right? After all, isn't that the sole motive for our existence?

Your snide remarks leave me no option but to IGNORE you.

civil war is one manifestation. slaughter is another one. cultural repression is another way.
FYI I am not advocating any of the above.

I am not endorsing anything. If some farmers survive without MSP the question is what about all the farmers.
Being a farmer is like a businessman. It is not for everyone

I assume that you do not advocate any of them. Then why do you resign yourself to any/all of them so lightly? We have gone along this path for 70 years now, where we have secular laws while the public at large chooses to base is existence in ideas that are hundreds, if not thousands of years old. The friction created by this is unsustainable and something has to give. Either we will devolve into identity-based strife, or rise above them.

A secular education system, secular institutions and social justice will take time to work their magic. Needless to say, there are ifs and buts involved, but we have to give ourselves time in order to rectify the wrongs of the past. Less religion, and not more, is the way to go about it.
