Pentagon tracking suspected Chinese spy balloon over the US

So, whats the fuss ? US airplanes spy on China mainland nearly everyday just off Chinese coastlines and on Chinese islands in SCS.
How about US fly those RC-135 directly inside China above the city of Chengdu or Dailin or Beijing??

Do you understand what is "Direct intrusion of US Air Space?"

This is not US Aircraft may have stray inside 12 nm Territorial Limit or fly over disputed island, Montana (now at Utah) is 100 of mile INLAND, and it is undisputed US territories. If I fly a US Air Force Aircraft above the city mentioned, that's a casus belli for war and you can Literally attack the US if this is intentional

That incident is a clear provocation. The chinese have guts. I don’t know what they have eaten at breakfast. Some bad dimsum? The balloon flies over Montana, the location of US strategic ICBMs.
Most far east analyst and punter said China was pissed about the Philippine Airbase, but doing something like that is just stupid

The US used to fly spy planes including U-2 all over Chinese airspace above Chinese territory many times over the years, some of the spy planes were shot down by Chinese missiles. When China did fly ballons over US, its all the crap come up.

used to?? in the 1980s??

We aren't talking about back 50 years ago. We are talking about 2023.

This had to have been approved by the US. Nothing moves through usa airspace without approval or a flight plan?

The US did and will do it whenever it thinks it can get away, US doesnt respect and abide by international laws.

No one has confirmed whether this is a manned platform.

If it is flying above airliner traffic then that is easily 45,000 feet plus (15000 metres plus) altitude. If it is a manned platform, they'd need oxygen and and pressurization device. What are the solar panels powering?
It’s unmanned. Nobody will survive at such high attitude low temperature unless the Chinese build in some sorts of high pressure cabine. Which is unlikely.
Powering a balloon is not a problem. It’s most likely filled with hydrogen or helium.

It’s aliens! American are so paranoid it’s funny. If it was why don’t you shoot it down?
It looks to me the US wants to capture it intact. Shooting it down will destroy it. Will be interesting to know what the balloon has inside. Maybe lots of new year rabbits.

Dude, again, you are not talking about US spy plane may have or may not have "DRIFTED" into/out of Chinese Air Space at the edge between 11 or 12 nautical mile territorial water.

Montana Air Space is NOT within 12 nautical miles of US contagious water, it's around 400 miles INSIDE OF THE CONTINETIAL UNITED STATES.

The comparable incident is when a US RC-135 fly above Beijing or Chengdu. Because your balloon was flying over Montana, Utah and now in Mississippi.

Why didn’t Canada shoot it down ?
Canadian Air Space is actually under US joint Control via NORAD

All the same, its all in Chinese airspace. If US thinks the ballons are spying and harmful, why hasnt the US just shoot them down as other countries would do ? US is entirely capable of doing it. The Chinese say the ballons are not spying, they are out of control and drifted into US airspace. Its the US that is allowing the ballons to drift deep inside US airspace and to make a big fuss about them.

It's not really the same. You are talking about something may have drifted into and out of one airspace, which could have been accident to an object penetrated around 1000 miles of US Airspace at this point.

And did you even use your head at all? WHY WOULD WE SHOOT IT DOWN INSIDE THE US IF IT WAS HARMFUL?? So it can crash and burn inside a populated US city??

And yes, of course the weather balloon, you have like 20+ solar panel, the balloon has been changing direction all the time. and there is no atmospheric equipment you can see from the outside not even an anemometers to measure wind speed. What kind of weather data that balloon is actually taking? How hot it is 70,000 ft above Montana??

you have to have the balloon flow toward stratosphere. and then come down in an unpowered way. First of all, that balloon would have cost 2 or 3 or even 5 times to make the Shahed drone. and second of all, you either drop the payload from 70,000-90,000 ft above ground, which by the time your projectile come back to earth it will be burn out because things that dropped that far up will disintegrate if it passes terminal velocity, that's similar to Space Shuttle Challenger diaster where the shuttle burn up on reentry.
This one is still technically a weather balloon, so it has everything. what I meant was a much downgraded and smaller version that is aimed to be mass produced with cost-down as the sole purpose. the balloon doesn't need much propulsion or precise fly control or big solar board, It‘s not meant to be some sophisticated weapon platform that fires projectiles either, it could just release powder-based payload to troposphere and leave the rest to rain, to sum it up? It's just a simple balloon, it’s meant to stress and overwhelm the USAF with numbers, you think only a couple of hundred balloons can do that?

And then the major thing, YOU DON'T CONTROL THE WIND, for that to be able to weaponise, you need the wind to work in your favor, otherwise if the wind did not blow East, YOUR BALLON CAN NEVER GET TO THE US....
The westerly belt is fairly constant. that's the main reason the balloon tactic was proposed and studied in the first place

The fact is US repeatly violated Chinese airspace over the years.

I mean if US really thinks tha ballons are spying and harmful to US security, it sure can shoot them down when they are drifting over empty lands.

Apparently shooting down the balloon is not that easy..

Why not put death ray, ionic cannon and Nova bomb while you are at it??

You are talking about a weapon that completely depends on a singular deployment method, which is highly susceptible and predictable in term of interception.

And I would not call Westerlie constant

Again, violating is not the same as intrusion. And it's different outside China Territorial Water that may or may not drifted inside, you are talking about it went into Montana, Utah, Missouri

and just because US can shoot them down is not the same as it had not happened. This is still an international incident to which the Chinese diplomat have to come out and express their regret that happened.

China's nuclear stockpile probably hasn't crossed the 1000 mark and will likely rise rather slowly, that's why cheap alternative measures need to be exploited.
