Parsis proud of the their Pakistani identity - BBCURDU

OK, I asked this because you call yourselves "Parsi" which literally means "Persian" in Persian language.
In India, they have surnames "Irani" e.g Boman Irani, Sanaya Irani etc .....and if i am not wrong, the country was named Iran only in 1935. So they are clinging to Iran even though culturally and linguistically they are Indian.

No, We called our country "Iran" from the beginning, But in Roman empire they called our country "Persae", And the European countries which all were influenced by the Roman empire started using names like "Persia" or "Perse" or etc for our country. In 1935 the Iranian government asked those countries which it had diplomatic relations with to call our country "Iran", which is the name that we call it ourselves.

Irani is a caste of new parsis who migrayed to India in recent times.
