Bollywood movie Panipat carrying the tag line; The Great Betrayal, is about to be released and is gathering quite a ruckus on social media already which is good for promotion but sensitive for the Pashtuns of Pakistan and Afghanistan since the main antagonist of the movie is none other than Ahmad Shah Abdali, a Sufi warrior, poet and king of 18th century which they hold in high esteem.

The portrayal of Muslims in Bollywood has long been a subject of controversy and ridicule. The common stereotypes being used has generated many memes.

Ahmad Shah Durrani (c. 1722 – 16 October 1772) also known as Ahmad Khan Abdali was the founder of the Abdali Empire and modern-day Afghanistan.

The Third battle of Panipat was fought between Abdali's Afghan forces and the Maratha forces in January 1761, in which the Rohillas of UP, Afghans of the Doab region and Nawab of Awadh sided with Invading forces and resulted in a decisive Abdali victory hence extending his control from Khorasan in the west to Kashmir and North India in the east, and from the Amu Darya in the north to the Arabian Sea in the south.

Abdali's mausoleum is located at Kandahar, Afghanistan, adjacent to the Shrine of the Cloak in the centre of the city. Afghans often refer to him as Ahmad Shah Baba.

The role of Ahmed Shah Abdali will be played by Sanjay Dutt. From a few scenes in the trailer, it can be gathered that Muslims are being portrayed as the barbaric hordes of illiterates’ hell-bent on destruction while Hindu territory is the centre of peace and enlightenment.

The movie will serve to malign the Muslims west of the border and jab at the minorities east of the border for their questionable alliances.

Why do the Maratha warriors look so cheap in their body language, postures etc.????

One good thing about the movie is the women warriors!!! They definitely need this mindset in the present day India!!!! The 4th Battle of Panipat looks like will be b/w the Hatun-i Hindustan vs. Pehlevan-i Pak....

I really got surprised when one person here was proud of a person that looted his place. Weird.

Every ruler in the past have committed good and bad deeds and difficult to judge historical events as per norms and morals of present so everyone just painting these rulers either entirely evil or saint depend on his beliefs and perspective and how he is twisting history . Muslim rulers must have done things which were against islamic principles so God will judge them for any wrong doings or cruelty toward others Muslims or non Muslims but Pakistan and India are enemy countries and Pakistan came into existence because of two nation theory so it make sense for Pakistan to named their missile in response to Prithvi as Gauri and Ghaznavi and Abdali just to have psychological advantage over India by naming them for the winner.

Pakistani Muslims have affiliation with Muslim rulers mostly because they have spread Islam and were against polytheism and caste system. Its funny that your country is more friendly and have better relationship with Afgahnistan where these invaders came from yet you are blaming Pakistani. Why you are investing in Afghanistan and appeasing afghan if consider afghan rulers like abdali as looters and criminals ? Do some introspection . You guys were busy in oppressing your own kind in the name of caste system and others social ills because of which invaders conquered and looted you easily. Even now you have people in India who oppress low caste dalits and others minorities who often get killed over suspicion of eating beef

I would like to ask what the kings in Lahore, Peshawar, etc were doing when Ahmad Shah invaded your territories? And didn't Abdali loot fellow Muslims while Maratha Hindus waged a war against Abdali?

As far as i know, Jirga members from Peshawar actually voted for him to be king of all Pukhtoons.

I think the Maurya dynasty fought with the seleucids and absorbed modern day Pakistan.

Sorry the Marathas were not like Ottoman empire. Turkey was a Christian majority area but now they constitutes less than 1% of the total Turkish population. The Ottomans were no better.

What you are talking about is a defeatist mindset. Why not be proud about what your land has produced instead of being proud of what Muslims from other countries have done against Hindus? So Pakistan only respects people who have hurt India and then expects India to respect them and have friendship with them? You can't have both things. Sorry, but I don't think that makes sense.

India haven't named any missiles after Afghanistani invaders and India has all the right to have good relations with Afghanistan just like Pakistan has even though Afghans looted mostly present day Pakistan. But actually naming missiles after invaders who looted you just because of same religious affinity is just too much I think. Of course, that's just my opinion and you also have perfect right to your opinion.

But isn't the world strange? Afghans defeated Pakistani and Indian rulers at one time but now their present day condition is worse than both India and Pakistan where both India and Pakistan can easily defeat them in a war.

Just to let you know and I had replied to someone else as well, there are reservations for lower castes in India to lift them up. I myself don't believe in caste system. In fact, there was a varna system in ancient times which got corroded. The Brahmins were the priests, Kshatriyas were warriors, Vaishyas were merchants, Shudras were the people who used to do odd tasks. Nothing was based on birth but on capability. Just like we have engineers, doctors, scientists, teachers, labourers, etc. The varna system was present day class system nothing else. Unfortunately, it became by birth over time. I despise the caste system as much as you and I am happy to say that we see less and less of it as time goes by.

My friend not only present day India but present day Pakistan was also invaded. In fact, present day Pakistan was the first to be invaded and it was fully conquered and not present day India. Don't act as if invaders just flew over Pakistan to conquer 'chaotic' India and brought 'law and order' to present day India by massacring innocent civilians and looting them.

Invaders were no saints and everyone was just after personal gain. Now and then they used religion to justify their acts like bringing 'kafirs' to the 'correct' path and thus they got support of the people. Religion was a strong tool to rally people around and if you fighting for a just cause, why not loot/kill people every now and then? But you have to actually think rationally to understand what actually happened and most people are just emotional.

Abdali was a local guy..He was born in Multan..Durani empire was local to the large part of present day Pakistan and Afghanistan.

let the movie come in theaters , nothing can be said decisively before watching full movie , by the way punjab and delhi area was looted and devastated many times by ahmad shah abdali in 18th century , sufi saint waris shah did not have very good opinion for ahmad shah .
he said " khata pita lahe da ,baki ahmad shah e da " ahmad shah used to loot punjab in every winter .

lol, India has been looted by hundreds of attackers for the last 7000 years recorded history. Why you single out Muslim leaders only ? Has Alexander and Barbarians and Arians not screwed you thousands of years ago ? Why not make a movie on Alexander ?
