Pakistan's Nuclear Submarine Development | News and Discussions

The nuclear sub will not be that expensive, most of the sub-systems have been developed and just need integration.

Thanks for Long disagreement. I just replied him. I also hate nuclear weapons. But You are getting 3-5 nuclear powered submarines in coming years which is also threat for Pakistan. Also we have threats from thousand miles away. To keep the civilians safe and for minimum deterrence policy, Nuclear powered submarine is needed. If not now, then b/w 2016-2025. This is the only elite weapon which can reach thousand miles away with faster speed and high possibility of undetection. This weapon will keep the enemy away to invade us. Also India should not worry for Pak nuclear powered submarine. This will be for peaceful purpose to keep the enemy away. 25% work is already done about nuclear propulsion system from 1998.QUOTE]

please provide a link about that. how u reached a number like 25 and since when pak got that talented engineers to do this job? than you
Nobody knows the exact percentage but work was going.

its just in the planning stage my frnd. u gotta go a long way loll its decades of headache then success will come. atleast learn somthing from our nuke sub program. took 13 yrs. pakistani engineers are not smarter, nor they have access to better facilities and money like india.

Program has been going on got at least a decade and a half.

Are you sure about the highlighted part ?

It is good to view India as competition but then twisting reality just to make yourself feel better doesn't take you anywhere.

India is much larger than your puny mind can comprehend and has access to every technology that is required for sufficient self defense. Indian defense organizations are far ahead of the things you're talking about. What India has learnt from History is that it is necessary to constantly keep upgrading your military strategy in parity with the present world. In past wars India did not have much of what it has now either, but still you know the results. In the end that's all that matters.

Pakistan want nuclear submarine just becoz India has got access to nuclear sub!!:undecided:
Why did you require nuke subs? Because China had them first?
You don't have to be a genius to understand what keeping military balance between adversaries is about.

i dint saw that level of commitment for Chandrayaan India's Moon Mission.:hitwall:
When the time is right we'll expedite our space program, its not our top priority yet.
We're not involved in any kind of prestigious race with any country.

india is doing same thing to pakistan what USA did to USSR
Not exactly. First of all we're not involved in any arms race, we have always believed in keeping the military status quo at 3-4:1 and
our military planning as always been way better than India due lack of resources. Where as you waste your money by trying to reinvent the wheel or buy dozens of different weapon platforms, we have always spent our money wisely by cooperating with friendly countries and buying only what we need to counter threats.

let the enemy state follow you in arm race then increase the defence budget by growing economy the hostile state will be forced to follow the same and will crash like USSR
Same to you, spent a lot more till your government is bankrupt. You are heading in that direction anyway.

Problem with you Indians is that with two decades of modest growth you already think you're on the top of the world!

Have you ever wondered what if pak-china relation deteriorated like that of US-pak... what will happen to such programs

I think the PN might have started working with the Chinese on SSKs and SSBNs of the next generation, although if they had done that earlier then the situation now would be different.

Thanks for Long disagreement. I just replied him. I also hate nuclear weapons. But You are getting 3-5 nuclear powered submarines in coming years which is also threat for Pakistan.
"How" is my question. Please keep in mind that only advantage a nuclear submarine provides(especially in our context) is that it can stay underwater for longer durations. Now once again with us being so close to each other and both being nuclear there is no way a war b/w us will go for months...So please tell me what is the benefit that a nuclear submarine will bring to you apart from bleeding you of resources...The job profile of nuclear submarine can very well be taken by a diesel one...

Also we have threats from thousand miles away.
If you are talking about US then mate there is no way 1 nuclear sub is going to do help you in any manner...

To keep the civilians safe and for minimum deterrence policy, Nuclear powered submarine is needed. If not now, then b/w 2016-2025.
Not in every context.....This is a must weapon for blue water navy's...It seems to me that you are now considering USA as one of your enemy...This is a very dangerous mentality and i hope in your strategists arena there is no taker for this.

This is the only elite weapon which can reach thousand miles away with faster speed and high possibility of undetection.
On the contrary nuclear submarines are more noisy then diesel one's...There strength lies in staying underwater for longer periods but 1 nuclear submarine is not going to be of much use...Either you go for 3-4 or none(if you aim of having one is to deter USA)...For india there is simply no role of a nuclear sub.

This weapon will keep the enemy away to invade us.

How is a nuclear sub any different from diesel one when it is supposed to be used to stop enemy from invading you???? In short the area where it will work is going to be aroud Pakistani waters...Nuclear submarine role is to go for offensive...i.e attack your enemy mainland....

Also India should not worry for Pak nuclear powered submarine. This will be for peaceful purpose to keep the enemy away. 25% work is already done about nuclear propulsion system from 1998.
I have my doubts there but then we(Indians) should be least bothered....Your diesel submarines are as much a headache for us as this one going to be...

Have you ever wondered what if pak-china relation deteriorated like that of US-pak... what will happen to such programs

That is not happening any time sooner...so they can safely assume it is not going to happen....

Not exactly. First of all we're not involved in any arms race, we have always believed in keeping the military status quo at 3-4:1

Then explain to me the need of a nuclear weapon...b/w this is just because you don't have much of an economy running which is why your defense budget is being modest...Let's say you have a robust economy...i would have no doubts that you will go for a weapon spree...Anyways this is subjective argument, so let's leave it there....

and our military planning as always been way better than India due lack of resources.
We are a poor nation and have two substantial enemies on both sides of border...Rest assured we don't have resources to waste...Do you have any example apart from below given statement where you think we are wasting our resources???

Where as you waste your money by trying to reinvent the wheel or buy dozens of different weapon platforms, we have always spent our money wisely by cooperating with friendly countries and buying only what we need to counter threats.

Do you know why China reached where she has when it comes to Arms industry??? They re-invented the wheel(though they followed a different route then us). In short re-inventing the wheel means investing for future...One cannot(shouldn't) aim for being a buyer all the time...Buying from local industry keeps the money in the system whereas one going out takes a toll on your national reserves...b/w care to throw light on dozens of different weapons platform???

Same to you, spent a lot more till your government is bankrupt. You are heading in that direction anyway.

Not sure what makes you think like this...we are anticipating a tight year and talks are already on that defense budget will take a hit...On contrary you had to increase your defense budget(justified or not is a separate discussion) even though economy is in shambles...

Problem with you Indians is that with two decades of modest growth you already think you're on the top of the world!

It is a rare feet to see your country transforming into an economic power house...No doubt we all are excited...

Pakistan's efforts to have a sea-based minimum credible nuclear deterrent vis-a-vis India took a significant step forward last month when the state-owned, Wuhan-based China State Shipbuilding Industrial Corp (CSIC) ferried the first Qing-class conventional attack submarine (SSK) to Shanghai to begin a year-long series of sea trials, which is likely to include the test-firing of three CJ-10K submarine-launched, 1,500km-range land attack cruise missiles (LACM) capable of being armed with unitary tactical nuclear warheads. Called the Qing-class SSK, it is a variant of the Type 041A Improved Yuan-class SSK, which is also due to begin its sea trials later this month.

It is now believed that the contract inked between CSIC and Pakistan early last April (see FORCE April 2011, pages 16-17) calls for the CSIC's Wuhan-based Wuchang Shipyard to supply six Qing-class SSKs, all of which will be equipped with a Stirling-cycle AIP system and will be able to carry up to three nuclear warhead-carrying CJ-10K LACMs each. The double-hulled Qing-class SSK, with a submerged displacement close to 3,600 tonnes, bears a close resemblance to the Russian Type 636M SSK, and features hull-retractable foreplanes and hydrodynamically streamlined sail. The first such SSK was launched in Wuhan on September 9 last year, and a total of three such SSKs are on order from China's PLA Navy as well. The AIP system for the Qing-class SSK was developed by the 711th Research Institute of CSIC. R&D work began in June 1996, with a 100-strong team of scientists and engineers led by Dr Jin Donghan being involved in developing the Stirling-cycle engine, while another team led Professor Ma Weiming of China's Naval Engineering University began developing the all-electric AIP system. The two projects entered the production engineering stage in 2007, with the Shanghai Qiyao Propulsion Technology Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the 711th Institute, becoming the principal industrial entity charged with producing the AIP system. Incidentally, the Qing-class SSK's all-electric propulsion system is a derivative of a similar system that was developed about a decade ago for the PLA Navy's six Type 093 Shang-class SSGNs and three Type 094 Jin-class SSBNs.

The submarine-launched CJ-10K LACM has been developed by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp's (CASIC) Hubei-based Ninth Academy (also known as the Sanjiang Aerospace Group, or 066 Base) on cooperation with the Third Academy's Beijing-based Xinghang Electromechanical Equipment Factory (159 Factory). Final assembly of the CJ-10K is undertaken by the Beijing-based Hangxing Machine Building Factory (239 Factory). The CJ-10K features an imaging infra-red optronic system for terminal homing, and it makes use of a ring laser gyro-based inertial navigation system combined with a GPS receiver to receive navigational updates from China's 'Beidou' constellation of GPS navigation satellites.

In another development, during Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's four-day official visit to China beginning May 17, the decks were cleared for the Pakistan Navy to acquire for a 10-year lease period the two Jiangkai I-class Type 054 guided-missile frigates (FFG) Ma'anshan (FFG-525) and Wenzhou (FFG-526), which have been in service with the PLA Navy's East Sea Fleet since 2005 (see FORCE December 2010, pages 44-46).
