Pakistan’s Japanese-dominated car market set to attract Europe and Korea

How much tax (import) is for the 1.8 till 3.2 litre category? And the registration tax?
I never import any vehicle yet as in India mostly high end luxury automobiles are (in class of Aston Martin , RR, Bentley).
Import tax.
Foreign vehicles imported into India are subject to customs duties that cost more than the retail price at the time of purchase. On average, expect to pay about 102 percent duty on a new vehicle or 160 percent on a used vehicle. These rates include:

  • Basic customs duty (35 percent)
  • Special excise duty (24 percent)
  • Additional duty (16 percent)
  • Surcharge on customs duty (10 percent)
  • Special additional duty of customs (4 percent)
  • Motor vehicle cess (0.125 percent)

I am absolutely stunned at your statement "VW's poor reputation for quality" VW has the best quality!!! what are VW group selling in the US. That is blasphemy on this side of the Atlantic :D

What about Audi that is made by VW?

I hate VW. The first car that I ever bought with my own money I worked so hard for was a 99 VW Passat 1.8. It had only 60,000 miles on it. Amazing ride, great handling, suspension, pick up.

Fast forward 18,000 miles the 2nd cylinder started leaking. Opened up the entire front bumper, radiator, condenser, lights. To take out the Engine Head. Machined it, put it back in 20 hour job from start to finish not including the Head machining.

Turns out the engine is an Inference Engine. While most automakers have shifted away from making these engines anymore VW hasn't. So every 60,000 miles the timing belt should be replaced. :hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

They really screwed their market share with some bad cars in the 90's.

Interesting! VW did go to belt driven timing and now they have gone back to Chain 2005 onwards in europe cant speak for US as VW seem to be making a hash of things over there.

Audi's sales have been increasing steadily year after year.
i'm guessing they have grabbed the entire slice that Saab and Volvo once held.

Audi is owned by VW and they tend to be better than VW cars thats a fact!

I have a question for you both I get the sense there is no legal requirement for cars like in the UK we have annual MOT or now known as VOSA test which has to be passed to keep the vehicle on the road is there one in US?

Audi sales are about 180,000/yr while Volkswagen badged is 360,000.

Highly unlikely. Pakistan's auto world is full of corruption.
They have more than enough money to feed politician and block the new comers by any mean.

Still today's Toyota basic XLI is without ABS and airbags. Nothing to talk about Suzuki's $hit.

Totally agree with you... The prices are sky high but the quality is shit AF. Toyota, Honda & Suzuki are paying millions of rupees bribe to custom department to keep the duty high on luxury imported cars to make sure their sales are not affected.

Well the cars purchased during Zardari era had hideous amount of taxes it is only recently that there has been reduction in import taxes (registration taxes are unmoved). An example of the amount of taxes put on cars:
A Mercedes C-Class costs around 38000$ in Pakistan after just the import tax it's around 76 lakhs PKR. As of 2015.

Wtf
Suzuki swift is for 13 lakhs in pakistan.:o:
Man that aches really deep.:D

There is no fault of Japanese as they established JV with local partners who have good influence in GoP.
So, who does not want huge profit & monopoly without giving ToT by selling outdated models.
Even in India, Toyota launched Qualis when it even retired from market like Indonesia.
Local players TATA & Mahindra give them run for money so they stop Qualis & bring their latest Innova.

Pakistan needs some good domestic players if they want some good cars

The import duty has affected worse than the economy in Auto industry.
Lol yes this is everyehere in every clintry but i really think that and have gut feeling thay they are looting you and comission is going to babus bcoz even if we take import duty into consideration, still the figure is nowhere near 13 lakhs.:D

Honda Accord 2.4 in Pakistan = Rs 10.6 Million

Honda Accord 2.4 - 3.0 in India = Rs. 1.9 - 2.3 Million (Maybe)

So let me get this right....Pakistan signed some sort of exclusivity contract with Suzuki way back?

That sounds like a really bad idea.

Wtf :o::o::o::o:
Lol please don't post such figures because i m laughi g here and i don't want to post laughing emoticons which can hurt seriously.
Pakistanis are really screwed and my conclusion is coming out to be trtrue.
I sometimes really feel pity(not in a bad way) for pakistanis when i get such figures and scarcity of quality cars but those babus must be driving imported cars.:D

The figures must be hurting you but not us despite having economy & other problems.. We are the most resilient & happiest nation. No matter what comes our way. I am just being realistic on this thread. Your economy is better because we do not fund terrorism in your country like you :P
