Social scientists are also beginning to detect a trend of sex-selective practices at birth in Pakistan. This is not to say that the practice of sex selection is widespread, although female infanticide, despite having declined in recent years, remains common. A deep-rooted preference for sons over daughters is pervasive in Pakistan, as is in India (though not with the same intensity) (Hina Sheikh)
Very informative and interesting topic. We have our issues as a society and as a country I am not saying we are out of the cesspool but my two cents:
But what she mentions is in my opinion intellectual dishonesty, I have huge social circle and through profession connected to people across the globe, I wont say it hasn't happened totally but gender selection in Pakistan is a Taboo there are both legal and religious considerations and repercussions.
Our religion absolutely prohibits any such act, not that I am aware of any in Pakistan.
I fail to comprehend the words "
detect a trend of sex-selective practices at birth in Pakistan" is there any indication that people opt to murder their daughters at birth, really? These west boot licking people.
There is of course the preference for a son, sons are given priority over daughter this will only change with time it is the same across time for all of humanity.
However, among the more educated society in the urban areas thing have improved significantly I am sure once education and I mean education not literacy is wide spread with lot of economic activity we will move in the right direction.
Besides Ahadith do mention about women population growing exponentially.
We in no way can be compared to what Chinese have done during one child era or what Indians are doing, sex is determined between 18-21 week of the pregnancy, and any abortion at that time is not just a darned clot of blood.
