These type of reports are not worth the paper they are written on. They are only as good as the objectivity of the report writers. And I am sufficiently informed of the west to know that most people will bend backwards until you hear the crack of the backbone to accomodate Israel - you know the guilt from 1940s and all that.

It is the first time I reported anything about pakistan as not much is reported on it here , as it is far far away.

But this news made headline and i thought it important enough to report as it deals with the basic notion of freedom of speech. This whole offence of blasphemy need to be erased , as it is ridiculous and goes against basic human rights.

People who want blasphemy to be punished by law , are the ones with the real faith issue , that is why anything said by another person , can shake their belief or offend them.

That is what you call - blind faith

That is why i always had more appreciation for some . like for example , some sufi teachers , who did not settle for blind faith and went out to experience the divine themselves , directly.

You can bend and flex all you like but the fact is with frightening regularity people are lynched for eating beef in India and the inspiration behind it is Hindooism. Ask your Israeli pal when was the last time they lynched somebody for eating some tender beef steak?

The point here is India, as a constitutional state that makes the rules its people live by, does not kill people for alleged or real transgressions against religion. Sure there are punishments for insulting another person's religion, but those are appropriate to the situation, not the same as the punishment for mass murder. And sure, there are people who try to take law into their own hands to impart their own version of justice, but they are also criminals under Indian law.

Now, as a citizen of a different country, I don't have any right to tell Pakistan how to make laws, but to equate Pakistan's institutional laws to what some religiously extreemist mob does in India is just plain stupid. One is a government of a highly populated country with a significant military and nuclear arsenal. The other is some a** holes on a weekend.
